My wife and I recently returned from a trip to Japan, and you’ve probably seen some of Japan ‘s most informative travel videos. So, in today’s video, I ‘m going to share with you how you can plan your trip to Japan. I’ll share all the details step by step so you can plan your trip from the comfort of your home . So, before we continue in the video, if you’re new to the channel, please subscribe to the channel and like this video so travelers like you can receive more such informative videos. So, let’s get started. If you haven’t seen my Japan series yet, click here and here. I’ve included the links in the description box. So, in this video, I ‘m going to share with you all the details related to a trip to Japan, such as budget, visas, places to eat, accommodations, and at the end of the video, I’ll share some bonus tips I learned from my trip, which will be very beneficial for you. We’ll explore Japan’s Golden Route, Tokyo, Kumamoto, and Osa, step by step. So, let’s begin with the Zero Mile Travelers. So, guys, let’s talk about the best time to visit Japan. There are actually four seasons in Japan, and the most popular season is from March to May. Spring in Japan is from March to May, and this is when you’ll see the cherry blossoms. The temperature during this time ranges from 12 to 20 degrees. The weather is quite pleasant, and it gets a little cooler in the mornings and evenings, which makes it a lot more enjoyable. So, the next season, guys, is from June to August. This is the summer season . From June to August, you’re going to experience temperatures around 31°. The Golden Route is Tokyo, Kumamoto, and Osaka, where you might find it a little warmer. So, if you like hot and humid weather, you should plan your trip between June and August. Now, let’s talk about the third season , and the second most popular season in Japan: autumn. Autumn begins in September and continues until November. You might find it a little warmer in September. By October, the temperature hovers around 23°. And as you arrive in November, it starts to get a little cooler. So, if you want to see autumn, you can go between September and November. So, guys, the third most popular season in Japan is winter, which runs from December to February. The temperature in our Golden Route is 5 to 15° and you can do whale watching, skiing etc. You can try it in Japan. So if you like snow then you should plan between December to February. Now let’s talk about flights. So if you plan 6 months in advance then you will find the flights quite cheap and the average cost of going and coming back is between 500 to 80, you will easily get a flight from India to Japan and from Japan to India. So the flight I took was from Bor to Delhi and from Delhi we went to Tokyo Haida. So you can also look for such flights . But if you take such an interconnected flight, meaning you ‘re flying from a domestic terminal to Delhi and then from Delhi to Tokyo, make sure you have enough room to catch your international flight if your domestic flight is delayed or canceled. You’ll need to plan accordingly. Especially if you’re flying Akasa Air, mine was delayed by four hours. Don’t make that mistake. The good thing about me was that I stayed in Delhi for a day and didn’t face any problems. So, you can plan accordingly. Now let’s talk about accommodation. So, while accommodation is much cheaper in Kyoto and Osaka, it can be quite expensive in Tokyo. So if you ‘re a solo traveler, I recommend booking capsule hotels, where you’ll find dorms ranging from ₹500 to ₹3500. If you’re traveling with family or a group, you can also book an Airbnb . In Koto and Osaka, you can find a very nice Airbnb for ₹3000 to ₹5000 per night. However, in Tokyo, you’ll have to stick to the minimum. You can find an Airbnb for ₹8000 to ₹10000 per night, as Tokyo is one of the most expensive cities in the world. You’ll have to spend a lot more to stay there. And if a friend or a friend of yours is staying with you, you’ll need to consider booking a room. If relatives live in Tokyo, then it’s great. You can live there comfortably. Now, let’s talk about visas. You get a Japan visa for 15 days. The day you enter is considered Day Zero. That means that day doesn’t count, and your visa counts from the next day. So, after entering for 15 days, you can stay there for 15 days. To apply for this visa, you need a valid passport, a photocopy, a cover letter, and if you’re employed, you’ll need a NOC letter from your employer, or a leave approval letter. We applied for our visa ourselves, without any agent or agency. So, if you want to apply for a visa yourself, I’ve made a separate video detailing it . In this video, I’ll include all the links for you in the description box . What should the document template be like? What should the itinerary template be like? How to write a cover letter? I’ve created a template for it. You’ll find the links in the description box. Or you can download it by scanning this QR code. If you need any assistance with your trip planning or visa-related matters, you can book a one-on-one session with me for half an hour or even an hour. I’ve included the links in the description box , or you can scan them here and book them. There, I’ll personally assist you with all your doubts and trip planning, so you can book that too. Now, let’s talk about travel insurance. Before going to Japan, you should definitely get travel insurance. You can get per-person travel insurance for ₹500 to ₹800 . You can get it from the policy market or online elsewhere, as healthcare in Japan is quite expensive. So, make sure your basic needs are covered. Now let’s talk about vaccinations and health precautions. There are no compulsory vaccinations for entry into Japan, but you can bring a basic flu shot and personal medications. That’s not a problem and will certainly benefit you. If you get sick, you can carry your own pills on hand. Now let’s talk about currency exchange and forex. The currency used in Japan is the Japanese yen, also known as JPY. Our Indian currency is stronger than the Japanese currency, so it’s almost half its strength. You can use forex cards. I’ve included a link to the cards I use in the description box. You can apply using my referral code. You’ll get a little cashback, and I’ll also benefit. ATM withdrawals are also quite easy. So, if you have an international debit card like Neo DCB or Neo, it will be a great help. Now, let’s talk about internal transportation. Japan has a very good network of subway trains and metro trains. For longer journeys, like Tokyo to Kyoto or Kyoto to Osaka, you can take the Shinkan, Japan ‘s bullet train. However, they are quite expensive. So, make sure you plan properly and avoid taking taxis internally, as they are quite expensive. On my own trip, I only used one taxi, and it was quite expensive. The rest of the time, we traveled by metro. For that, you’ll need a Swik card or a Pasmo card. So, guys, you don’t need a JR Pass to explore the Golden Route . I’m telling you this from personal experience. So, if you’re going to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kato in Japan, you can simply buy bullet train tickets from the counter; they’ll be more convenient. You don’t need a JR Pass. You can buy individual bullet train session tickets from Tokyo to Kato or from Kato to Osaka. This will be more beneficial. I used this method too, so I ‘m sharing it with you. Internally, if you take subway trains or buses, you only need one card, a Sui card. You can use the Welcome Sui. There’s no need to pay a deposit. The deposit is very minimal, ₹250. I got a 10-year permanent card. You can get that too. It’s easy. If you watch my videos, I’ve shown you exactly how to do it. I’ve explained everything step by step. I have also put the link in the description box. Yes. Now let’s talk about the local culture. In Japan, respect and discipline are highly valued. So, if you’re making noise in public places or creating a lot of nuisance, like you do on the Delhi trains or metro, that’s just not acceptable. They don’t like that at all. And they don’t talk on the phone either. If you go on a train, you ‘ll see people reading books, doing other activities. I mean, they never talk on the phone, and they don’t talk to each other at all. So, keep this in mind, and there are priority seats there. Reserved seats are for senior citizens, pregnant women, and women. So, don’t sit there. They get very annoyed. I’m telling you all this because I read all this before going there, and you should keep these things in mind. You won’t find any dustbins in Tokyo because of the Tokyo Gas Tragedy. Basically, that’s why you won’t find any dustbins there. So, you can wear your own large cargo bag or carry your own small polythene bag in which you can fill all your belongings and dispose of it once you get home. Don’t throw garbage everywhere. There are quite high illegal fines in Japan, so you should keep this in mind too. Now let’s talk about SIM cards and connectivity. So, guys, you’ll find free Wi-Fi everywhere in Japan . You’ll find free Wi-Fi in any store you go to in Tokyo. You can use that. And you won’t have any problems at the airport either. You’ll also find free Wi-Fi there. But you can get an e-SIM for your personal use, like I did. I bought an eSIM from Japan Wireless for 1800 N, valid for 10 days, and it had 10 GB for 10 days. So, it was a very good SIM and I used it for the entire trip. Before buying, make sure that your iPhone is compatible with it because many iPhones are not compatible with it, so your plan may go waste. I got this SIM for 1800 N, i.e. approximately ₹1000. It was an eSIM, and you can see how I applied for it in detail in my videos . So, do check out my videos from Japan. So, now let’s talk about the most common question, what is the budget going to be? So, if you’re a budget traveler who knows how to stay in dorms or hostels and knows how to save, you can easily stay anywhere in Osaka, Koto, or Tokyo for 9,000 to 11,000 per day, including food, travel, and accommodation. For mid-range travelers, your per-day cost will easily be between 13,000 and 16,000 per person. I’m talking about the Golden Route. And if you use a zero-forex markup card, and don’t use credit cards that charge for forex transactions, you can save a lot of money there too. So, let’s talk about some bonus tips. If you’re going to Japan, keep an umbrella handy, as the weather can change and rain can come at any time . You can also take waterproof sunscreen if you are going in the summer or if you are going to Nara or other places where the cherry blossoms are seen, it gets very hot in the afternoon, so you can also take sunscreen. Apart from that, you will need comfortable shoes because 15 to 20,000 steps are quite normal there. If you close the day for half a day or at 5:00, then you will have 15 to 20,000 steps. Because to take the subway train, you have to go through a lot of steps and follow the stairs. It takes a lot of time. And if you are in Tokyo and you have started at 9:00 and you come home at 8:00, 9:00 or 10:00 in the night, then let’s assume that you are going to take 25,000 steps and after that your feet will also ache a lot, so it is very important for you to carry comfortable shoes and you can also keep your pain killers with you in case you are having a lot of pain, then you can use those as well. Some shopping tips, there is no tax refund system there. You can simply show your passport and the shop will give you the price of that item after deducting 5%, so you will not get any such thing as a refund, you are directly billed on the cost of your product by deducting that amount of VAT, so it is quite high. I liked it. You can find it in all the shops, at all the top brand shoe stores, at Osaga Tigers, and at Donkey Hote if you’re shopping . Another important tip: if you’re planning a day trip to Mount Fuji, check its visibility. There are plenty of online websites that will tell you the forecast. So, plan your day accordingly, determining which day is most likely to be visible. We planned accordingly, and we saw Mount Fuji on our first attempt. We were quite lucky. You can plan similarly, checking the weather forecast before your trip so you can pack clothes accordingly so you don’t have to buy anything there. Now, let me give you a detailed itinerary of what you can do for 10 days. And if you’re interested in purchasing this itinerary, we’ve included it in the description. We’ve created a complete travel guide to Japan for you, so you can download that too.
