An infinity pool seamlessly connected to the sea. Designed using natural materials such as Ryūkyū limestone, it highlights the shades of Miyako Blue and the white sand in exquisite detail, harmonizing beautifully with the surrounding landscape.
The luxury of an island residence in harmony with the sea
Surrounded by crystal-clear waters, Miyakojima in Okinawa Prefecture welcomes a new jewel of high-end hospitality. Rosewood Miyakojima marks the Japanese debut of the internationally renowned Rosewood Hotels & Resorts. Its opening brings a fresh experience and a new aesthetic to the island’s landscape.

From the turquoise shallows to the deep blue horizon, the infinity pool offers the freedom to fully enjoy a luxurious seascape.
Comprising 55 private villas, each with its own pool, the resort translates the spirit of Ryūkyū architecture into a contemporary form. Designed by Studio Piet Boon, led by Dutch designer Piet Boon, the property exudes understated elegance and a richness of textures that harmoniously blend tranquility and luxury. Spaces conceived to resonate with the surrounding nature provide a profound sense of serenity.

Guest rooms come in two types, ‘Villa’ and ‘House,’ each offering breathtaking views of Miyakojima’s deep blue sea.

Asaya Spa provides a blissful retreat experience curated by Rosewood’s innovative wellness brand, Asaya.
The culinary experience extends this dialogue between land and sea. Dishes crafted from local ingredients rich in vitamins and minerals—known as nuchigusa or ‘herbs of life’—combine French and Japanese techniques. Each plate transcends mere taste to become a memorable sensory encounter.

2. BATON SUITE Okinawa Kouri Island
The ‘Baton Villa Suite’ comes with a private garden and terrace and welcomes dogs under 10 kg (one per room).
A modern retreat overlooking the turquoise waters of Kouri Island
Opened in March 2025, BATON SUITE Okinawa Kouri Island is the first resort-style luxury hotel developed by Daiwa House Realty Management Co., Ltd., known for the Daiwa Roynet Hotels chain. Set on the shoreline with stunning views of the Kouri Bridge and its emerald-green panorama, the hotel invites guests to savor time and experience luxury as a form of gentle, everyday indulgence.

The reception area opens onto a spectacular view of the Kouri Bridge.

Inside, a spacious living and dining area features a sofa, custom-made Simmons beds, and an oversized daybed. Ideal for those seeking a quiet escape from daily life or for long-term stays.
The 35 suites, each measuring 67.4 m², are ideal for extended stays: cathedral ceilings, spacious balconies, mini-kitchens (in select rooms), and integrated drum-style washing machines. Every suite offers unobstructed ocean views, allowing guests to embrace the island’s unhurried rhythm fully.

Amenities, popular across generations, include Japan’s fragrance brand SHOLAYERED. Each room is equipped with two ReFa devices (hair dryer and curling/straightening iron) and a ReFa showerhead, offering one of the most comprehensive amenity selections on the island.

The infinity pool seems to merge with the emerald sea, offering a view of the Kouri Bridge, praised as a ‘beautiful bridge.’
The on-site restaurant Octo features dishes prepared in a rare Spanish Josper charcoal oven, one of only a few in Japan. Fresh local seafood, island vegetables, and Okinawan Wagyu beef are grilled to perfection, each dish capturing the aromatic richness of the region. These Mediterranean-inspired plates carry the subtle flavors and textures of Okinawan produce, making every meal a small discovery.

Inside Octo, the panoramic view changes from morning to sunset, offering an extraordinary visual experience throughout the day.

The restaurant’s signature dish, ‘Island Octopus and Zarzuela Paella with Island Garlic Aioli,’ features an entire leg of locally sourced octopus. The aioli is mixed in front of guests in a theatrical performance. Grilled in a Josper charcoal oven, the octopus is crisp on the outside, tender and juicy inside, delivering a remarkable burst of flavor.
More than a base for sightseeing, the hotel encourages guests to step back from the constant demands of everyday life, to rediscover the value of calm and time. It offers an absolute pause, a retreat from the need to produce or perform.

3. YAWN YARD Kouri Island
Including the ‘garden,’ the total area measures 100 m². The ‘Sea twin room’ features a living area with a sofa and low table, accommodating up to four guests. Photo: Daiki Fukao (same for subsequent images).
A villa resort conceived as a ‘garden’ overlooking Kouri Blue
Opened last summer on Kouri Island, YAWN YARD Kouri Island is a private resort composed of eight villas. Centered around the concept of a ‘garden to stay in,’ it offers a singular hospitality experience, bringing a fresh perspective to the notion of travel. Landscapes woven from greenery, light, and water evoke a gentle yawn, while the spaces, immersed in the island’s tranquil pace, seem to breathe softly.

Subtle touches within the minimalist space awaken aesthetic awareness, transforming a full day spent relaxing into a luxurious experience.
The design was entrusted to Jo Nagasaka of Schemata Architects. While honoring the architectural and structural beauty of Okinawa’s traditional houses, he reinterprets it with a modern and minimalist sensibility. From the substantial Ryūkyū limestone counters to the outdoor dining tables, from low chairs oriented toward the sea to torch-shaped lights casting a soft glow, every detail reflects a deep respect for the land and its materials.

In the ‘Sea king room’, the ocean is visible through a picture window. Fully sliding, the window opens onto the pool and seascape, creating a seamless connection between interior and exterior.
Each villa features a heated infinity pool, allowing guests to experience a sense of immersion year-round, as if dissolving into the island’s sea and sky. The design, which gently connects indoor and outdoor spaces, redefines the relationship between humans and nature.

Comfortable bedding invites deep sleep. The roomwear is an original design by Okinawa-based apparel brand Lequio.

Breakfast, enjoyed in each ‘garden,’ is available in three options (pictured: the ‘Boroboro Jūshī breakfast’). The recipes are inspired by the spirit of ‘kusui mun’—Okinawan home cooking rooted in the principle that food and medicine are one.
Beyond the mere concept of ‘staying,’ the resort offers the sensation of surrendering to the island’s air and rhythm. YAWN YARD quietly presents the essential charm of island living—a form of retreat previously absent from contemporary travel.
