Shrine Maiden Dance | Toyosaka Dance | Terukuni Shrine, Kagoshima, Japan #巫女舞 #豊栄の舞
This dance is one of the designated ritual dances for the main shrine grounds, and was newly composed in 1950. It is called Maiden Dance as it is intended to be performed by women. There are solo, two-person and four-person dances. The official costume is a suikan (Japanese traditional kimono) with scarlet hakama, but it is often performed with chihaya. The instruments are sho, hichiriki, ryuteki (Japanese flute), gakubiwa (Japanese lute), brush, gaakutaiko (Japanese drum). The flowers used are usually red and white flowers with the name “Kami” (God / Deity) attached, but seasonal flowers may also be used.
