i bought this bottle of tamari ~2 years ago but maybe only used once,
and it now looks like white mold is growing on top and it smells of alcohol, similar to when your sourdough starter hasn't been fed in too long a time;
can i pour off the gunk and use it? or might this be dangerous to consume?

Yes it can, and yes that has gone bad, no don’t use it.
