【愛知・豊川】新感覚グルメに夢中! ロマン感じる 古代の史跡へ EXPLORING TOYOKAWA! Visiting 3 Recommended Spots (AICHI)
This is “Toyohashi Walking with a Cat”, a channel introduces our recommendations with music on the background. We are driving along National Route 1 toward Toyokawa. This time, we’d like to introduce 3 recommended spots in Toyokawa. Let’s head to the first destination! We’re almost at the first destination. We’re here! There are sofas, chairs, and counter seating in the stylish restaurant. Here, you can enjoy “unique tonkatsu” with various fillings. “tonkatsu” (pork cutlet) pig figurines So cute! Let’s have lunch. Here’s a part of the menu. About their popular items. Lunch menu. Kids’ set & curry set. Restaurant’s No. 1 popular item. Bento boxes. They also run a food truck. This is “Choose Your Own Tonkatsu Set.” I chose the “small portion” of rice. I couldn’t decide which tonkatsu to get, but ended up choosing these two types. The fillings are wrapped in meat. Calzone is the owner’s masterpiece. It’s filled with melted cheese. The restaurant recommends eating it with this spice. Now, let’s start with the “Tonkatsu Tomato”. A very juicy tomato. Dip it in the spice, then eat! It has a refreshing and light taste. The spices double the deliciousness! Next up, “Tonkatsu Calzone”. It’s packed with cheese. I add a little spice to this one too. I could get hooked on this. These are the condiments. Pour sesame dressing over the salad. “Wow! smells great♪” Midori can’t hide her joy. This is “Choose Your Tonkatsu & Curry Set”. For this one, I chose the “Tonkatsu Egg”. It’s a European-style curry with a rich aroma. I’ve had Scotch eggs before, but I wonder what a “Tonkatsu Egg” is like. First, let’s try the curry. It’s packed with plenty of tender, slow-cooked beef. Mildly spicy with a rich, deep flavor. Apparently the restaurant’s top recommendation. Let’s also try the “Tonkatsu Egg.” Choosing this was a great decision! The tonkatsu coating soaks up the curry and tastes amazing. Let’s add green shiso leaf dressing to this salad. FYR, this is the “C Lunch Set.” It comes with two potato corn croquettes. After-meal drink time. You can get a drink for an extra 100 yen with your meal. Thank you for the meal. It’s also a great spot for a solo dining. Thank you very much, “TONKATSU KOROMO”. Now that we’re full, let’s head to our next destination. We’re getting close. It is a historical site from the “Nara period”. And it proves that Toyokawa has prospered since ancient times. We’re here. Beautiful red spider lilies! They look great with the vermilion pillars. During the Nara period, “Kokubunji” and “Kokubunniji” were built nationwide. The “Mikawa Kokubunniji” was built here. Before visiting the historic site, we recommend touring this museum. You can see excavated artifacts, watch DVD explanations, and hear detailed stories from the staff. Admission to this museum is free. It reads “Site of the “Nandaimon” (South Gate). Beyond this point lies the grounds of “Kokubunniji”. The grounds measure approximately 150 meters square. Visible ahead is the “Chumon” (Middle Gate). The corridor has an interesting structure and is a must-see! There are two corridors separated by a wall. A double corridor connects the “Chumon” and the “Kodo”. “Mikawa Kokubunniji” is the only “Kokubunniji” that has this structure. (according to the museum staff) What a beautiful vermilion lacquer! We hear they referenced “Horyuji Temple” (Nara Prefecture) for this restoration. Let’s head to the front. The elevated area ahead, that’s where the “Kondo” (Main Hall) once stood. Look at this stonework. It’s said to be on a scale comparable to “Toshodaiji Temple” (Nara Prefecture). The sign reads “the stairs to the Kondo is dangerous.” Let’s go around to the back. What a tall stone podium! We’ve arrived at the rear of the “Kondo”. The “Kondo” was the central building of the nunnery. The area in the center, raised even higher, was the “Shumidan”. The “Shumidan” was where the principal Buddha statue was enshrined. It states that six foundation stones from that era are used here. Please try to find out where those stones are. Apparently there was the “Shoro (Bell Tower)” here. Beyond this area lie the following structures: the “Kodo” (Lecture Hall) where scripture lectures were held, the “Nibo” (Nunnery Quarters),
(At that time, it was stipulated that the Kokubunniji should have 10 nuns.) the “Northern Building Site”, (The nature of the facility is unknown.) and remains of the “post-and-beam fence”, that once enclosed the grounds of the nunnery. Generally, Kokubunniji are said to be smaller than Kokubunji, but this “Mikawa Kokubunniji” is comparable in scale to a “Kokubunji”. Excavations continue here as an important site where all three historical ruins are located together. 3 ruins (the provincial-government office, temple, and nunnery). The day when the history and culture of the “Tenpyo era” revives in this place may not be far off. The “Tenpyo era (729-749)” is a period that falls under the “Nara period”. The “Tenpyo no Sato Museum” and the “Mikawa Kokubunniji” were fascinating. Thank you very much. Heading to our final destination for the day. All that walking has made us thirsty. It’s time for a tea break. Our destination is just around the corner to the right. It’s a “Japanese tea cafe” where you can enjoy various types of Japanese tea and sweets. We’re here. This is handled by “ISASHI Seicha”, a tea wholesaler in Toyokawa City with 80 years of history. The cafe has a somewhat casual atmosphere, blending Japanese and Western styles. This building, with its striking high ceilings, was originally a tea factory. Half of the space has been renovated and is now used as a cafe. Look toward the back! The other half remains an active tea factory. Here stands a brick “iron kiln sand-roasting machine,” currently roasting the barley tea that “ISASHIEN” prides itself on. You can observe the factory through the glass from the cafe. Barley roasted in this kiln brings out its natural sweetness. The kiln is the only one in Aichi, and 3 remain in Japan. It’s a roaster cherished since the company’s founding. Orders and payments for the cafe are handled here. Japanese Tea and Sweets. Seasonal Specials. Tea Leaves and Characteristics. As a reference for choosing tea. Now, let’s have some tea. “3 Infusions Course” Tea Leaves: “Yutakamidori”. For the first of the three infusions, the staff will brew it for you. The second and third infusions will be brewed by yourself. This course allows you to enjoy the depth of Japanese tea. Tea sweets: Chocolate Salami (2 flavors) included. Next up: “Barley Tea Latte (Deep Roast · Hot)”. Barley tea is their signature drink. They use barley tea roasted in the roaster we introduced earlier. The barley tea powder on top is wonderfully fragrant. This is my first time trying a “Barley Tea Latte”. Milk and barley tea are different types, but both have a gentle sweetness. It’s a new sensation, and the comforting flavor is delicious. “Hojicha (roasted green tea) Pudding.” This is a firm, retro-style pudding. It’s a dessert unique to a “Japanese Tea Cafe”, packed with the characteristics of two types of “hojicha”. It’s a pairing that brings out the full charm of Japanese tea. This is the “Wa-Kocha (Japanese black tea) -Flavored Baked Cheesecake”. The cake exudes a gorgeous aroma. The batter incorporates “Omotenashi Wa-kocha” leaves, and the sauce drizzled over the cake is also “Wa-kocha”-flavored. It’s a supreme masterpiece that lets you savor the essence of “Wa-kocha”. The cookie crust at the bottom provides a perfect accent. This cafe is run by the three sisters and cousin of “ISASHIEN”. For details, please see the “1_34 cafe book” placed at each seat. Concept & Goals. Origin of the cafe name. Product Introduction. I spotted the names of shops we featured on our channel before!! There is a merchandise section. Various barley teas from “ISASHIEN”. 20 types of Japanese tea bags. Also available as gifts. In this “Official Bottle”, you can also take out tea. (Cold tea only!) I decided to bottle some Japanese tea as a souvenir. I chose this tea. Its features are written here. When you order, they hand it over like this. Please fill the bottle with your preferred amount of water. The bottle comes with a handy inner cap. The “Inarin”-colored tea is complete. It had gotten completely dark outside. The cafe was holding its “Night Cafe” event that day. Also, let us briefly introduce this place. Behind the cafe is their shop “ISASHIEN”. Let’s go check it out. Various teapots are displayed. So stylish! Four types of “ISASHI Tea”. Of course, they also have the shop’s signature barley tea. Lovely aroma. Thank you very much, “1_34 cafe” & “ISASHIEN”. Like multiple layers of rock, new cultures build upon tradition. Souvenirs for the family. Maggie! Which one are you curious about, the contents inside, or the paper bag?
