On October 26, commencing at 17:34 local time (18:34 JST) for approximately 10 min, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, the Prime Minister of Japan chaired the 3rd Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Leaders Meeting with Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia. The summary of the meeting is as follows:
(1) Prime Minister Anwar, the co-chair of the meeting and this year’s ASEAN chair, showcased Malaysia and other ASEAN countries’ initiatives that align with the ideas of AZEC, and expressed his expectations for progress in tangible cooperation projects under AZEC.
(2) Prime Minister TAKAICHI acknowledged that approximately 120 cooperation projects have been developed between Japan and the AZEC partner countries for one year since the 2nd AZEC Leaders Meeting. The Prime Minister also stated that the efforts, including the development of rules to promote activities that contribute to decarbonization in Asia, sectoral initiatives and individual projects involving both the public and private sectors, have been showing progress.
(3) During the meeting, the Government of Japan reported on the outcomes of the 3rd AZEC Ministerial Meeting held on October 17, 2025.
(4) At this meeting, the leaders of the AZEC partner countries adopted the AZEC Leaders’ Joint Statement and its attachment, “The Progress Made in 2024-2025 Following the Action Plan for Next Decade”. These documents reaffirmed the importance of AZEC principles and the need to accelerate the actions in this critical decade. The leaders of the AZEC partner countries also shared the progress made over the past year based on the “Action Plan for the Next Decade” adopted last year.
