Previously, it was announced that Japanese anime studio Kyoto Animation would reveal their new project during KyoAni no Sekai-ten (Meet the Worlds of KyoAni) event, held on 25–26 October 2025 at Miyako Messe, Kyoto. On Saturday (25/10), Kyoto Animation officially announced its latest anime project, Sparks of Tomorrow. The anime is scheduled for release in 2026.
Adapted from the novel 20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku (20th Century Electric Catalogue) by Hiro Yuki, Sparks of Tomorrow follows the story of Inako, a 15-year-old daughter of a sake merchant in Fushimi, Kyoto, who struggles under the harsh treatment of her father. During a visit to Fushimi Inari Shrine, she encounters Kihachi, a young man with a modern outlook who does not believe in God, contrasting sharply with Inako’s devout nature.
During this time, Inako was forced into an arranged marriage by her father. Unable to resist, she reluctantly complies, until Kihachi persuades her to escape her family. The only way to prevent the marriage is to locate the Electric Catalogue, a book Kihachi wrote as a child containing predictions about electricity, which was taken by his elder brother and whose current whereabouts are unknown.
