Kamakura | Day trip from Tokyo – temples, zen, matcha & beach walk 🍵 | Japan Vlog

Day five in Tokyo and we are going on a day trip today to Kamakura and Enoshima. Okay, so there are thousand ways to get to Kamakura. We want to find the least crowded one just so we can navigate all the train space better. Most of the recommendations say to go to Shinjiku station and then switch to JR line from there. But our goal is to get to station instead and then switch to JR line from there. We asked here and there, but we finally figured it out. It is super loud here, but we finally found the train to Kamakura. We didn’t go quite according to the plan and getting the day pass, but we are using the Suika cards instead. A quick snack before we board the next train. One and a half hour later, we arrived in Kamakura. It took us quite some time to get here because we had a little problem navigating all the transportation, but we are here and ready to enjoy a lovely sunny day. First impression of Kamakura is that it’s way less loud than Tokyo and that’s expected. It’s very local. It’s very charming and it looks like a more traditional Japanese city. We are getting really good matcha here and it was only 930. Thank you so much. You smell so good. First stop is going to be the bamboo temple for which we have to get super hot. We’ve made it to the first stop here in the bamboo temple. Our first stop in Kamakura was the Hokuji Temple, also known as the Bamboo Temple. The path leads you through tall, quiet bamboo that almost blocks out the outside world. The air feels cooler here and the light is softer. There’s small treehouse tucked inside where you can sit with a bowl of matcha and just listen to the wind moving through the trees. It’s one of those peaceful places that makes you want to slow down and just take it all in. I believe this is the entrance to the temple. So over there, the building is off limits to the tourists, but it’s super calm. This little device is a lifesaver. Today we are heading to another temple. We are at the entrance and uh it already looks pretty majestic. I think these are lotus flowers or I’m not sure. But at the garden Just a short walk from the train station and right in the center of Kamakura, there was another shrine to be explored. It was built almost a thousand years ago and later became the heart of the city’s history and culture. The shrine sits on a small hill with long stone steps, red gates, and peaceful pounds surrounded by trees. Even though it’s close to the busy streets, it feels calm and timeless. A quiet moment that connects you to Kamakura’s past. Third stop of the day and we arrived at Toshima Street which is a local street food and a shopping street. Let’s explore. You want to eat? You want to try this one? You say you are you’re hungry. You want? Yes. We go. Wife decide not to eat. She say she’s hungry but she don’t want to eat. That’s it. Apparently from Toshimaya Street is Kachi Street and it’s kind of the same. I think it’s just one long uh shopping street. After visiting the shrine, we walked down Kachidori Street, which is a lively street filled with little shops, cafes, and food stalls. The air here smelled like freshly baked snacks and sweet rice cakes. And it’s the perfect place to just wander, try a few treats, and pick up some cute souvenirs. They have an animal cafe here with owls. They are so cute. We tried a few local snacks along Komachori, starting with dango. these grilled rice balls on skewers covered with a sweet soy glaze. The flavor was interesting to say the least. Not my favorite really. After the food adventure, we headed down to the beach to walk off everything and just enjoy the sea breeze. arrive back in Tokyo. My hair looks crazy from the humidity, but we are going to grab dinner and just take the nice slow. Our order consists of the kiwami and then was it this one? Yeah, the kiwami karaka. And we also got some gyoza. A perfect end to the perfect day. And Kamakura is one of those places that we are considering coming back to. It has such a lovely charm. But as always, thank you for being here and for watching. I hope you enjoyed the video and I’ll see you in the next one.
