The peak of Japan’s Mount Fuji got its first taste of snow this season on Thursday, October 23, according to local news reports.
Officials from the Kofu Local Meteorological Observatory announced that around 6 am Thursday, it had observed the season’s first snowcap on Mount Fuji.
The snowfall came 21 days later than the average year, but 15 days earlier than last year’s start.
Footage filmed by X user @hidden_japan_ shows a white blanket of snow covering the summit on Thursday.
“Today, the mountain officially had its first snowfall and is now completely covered in white,” they wrote in an X post. Credit: @hidden_japan_ via Storyful
