You Won’t Believe This Is Japan! ISHIGAKI π―π΅ Okinawa
[Music] [Music] Good morning everyone once again here from Okinawa. In the first video, we were on an island called Makoima and then we got a flight to the island that we’re on right now, which is called Ishiaki. So, we’re staying in this hotel, Hotel Emerald Isle. We’re right next to the Orian factory, which is the famous beer here in Okinawa. Oran the Draft, and we’re making our way to the bus terminal. I mentioned in the previous video that we’re not able to drive here, so we have to use public transport in Makoima. We got on some electric bikes, but here we should be okay with the buses for where we want to go. So, luckily, we’re only about 2 minutes from the bus terminal. very close. We’re also right next to the ferry terminal. We’re planning on doing a boat trip to a different island in the next video. So, really good location. [Music] [Music] [Music] So, we’ve just arrived at Kabira Bay. Probably took about 50 minutes to get here. It was 770 per person. So this is Kabira Bay. Probably the most famous place in Ishigaki. Super beautiful bay. So you can see a lot of people have come here by boat, it seems. Boat tour. Got lots of different islands in the bay, too. Amazing. Yeah. No, I think people come here and then they do the boat tours from here. Ah, okay. There’s some snorkeling ones and also diving ones from we saw some signs that offering the tours just around there. Yeah, we’re going to head down there too. The the beach looks really nice. Really white sand. [Music] [Music] [Music] Man, this place is way too nice. So calm as well. So, you can’t swim here in the bay. I read it’s cuz of the the currents. I mean, it’s super calm right now, right? But apparently there are currents. Maybe more in the the middle. Yeah. Maybe this is the nicest place we’ve seen in Okinawa so far. It’s really hard. Our first trip here, we went to that beautiful island, Tokashiki. Yeah, it’s it’s really hard to choose. This one is different because there is this island and yeah, it’s just unique with some big mountains as well. It’s really hard, isn’t it? And then in Mako Jim, we went to that beach that had the arch which is really nice. We did see though that there’s another beach just outside of the bay and you can swim there. So, we’re going to be heading there after this. Crystal clear the water. So, it looks like all the boat tours that we see are going out of the bay, not in the bay. I think they are snorkeling tours. So, yeah, there’s probably more corals on the outside in the open sea. [Music] Hey, [Music] hey, hey. [Music] We’re just walking to the far end of the beach. We’re actually wondering if we could even like walk around the coast to the beach that we want to go to, but I don’t think so. I think this is the end. There’s nobody here. Like all the tours, there are many, many people in the main area. There was even a big group of Filipinos. Yeah. And but they just stay there. They don’t come around this area. So that’s just just us here. Oh, so you can pass through to this side. It continues on then. Wow, look at this beach here. Didn’t realize these cars would be able to drive up here. Man, this is absolutely perfect. Definitely glad we walked at the end. Maybe we can swim at this part. I’m not entirely sure. I don’t know if this is still considered part of the bay or if we’re already outside of it. Got a feeling these ones uh are fishing boats, not for the tours. [Music] Hey, hey, hey. [Music] Yeah, that was easily some of the best drone shots that I’ve ever taken in Japan. So spectacular, especially the the islands. You probably saw from the footage there was also kind of like a traditional looking sailboat. That was cool. Don’t know if you can do a tour with that boat. And we’re going to head to the other beach already cuz we need to get in that water. It’s absolutely boiling. I think it’s around 32Β° C. So even in the shade, you’re still sweating. Yeah. But nobody passed us around here. So if you want a quiet spot in Kabira Bay, just walk up the beach. Something like a 3 4m minute walk. So I think it’s around a 25minut walk to get to the other beach. We wanted to get a taxi. They have an app called DDI, but nobody was accepting it. And yeah, we’ve been waiting like 10 minutes. So, I guess we’re just going to have to walk. And there’s barely any taxis around here. We don’t see any. So, luckily, we found this bicycle store. 1,300 for the electric one. 2 hours. A normal one would be 700. We’re getting the electric, though. All right. So, that’s awesome. The good thing now is that we can visit even more places because the bus back is at 1:35 p.m. and right now it’s around 11:00. So, we’ve got quite a long time. So, I think we’ll visit two different beach areas. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Yeah, the bicycle is such a nice way to explore the Okinawan Islands So really, really nice. We enjoyed it so much on Makoima, too, even in the heat. And we could have rented these bikes in the main town where we’re staying, but it was just a bit too far to come all the way here. I think it would have took like almost 2 hours just to get here and then 2 hours back. So that’s why we got the bus instead. We got some goats here. Haven’t really seen many goats around Okinawa. There’s some others. The Okinawan goat. Cool beard, dude. That goat seems pretty chill now. Curious about the camera. That is a cool goatey beard. So, it’s kind of a hidden pathway. We went down this road and it just comes to a dead end, but there’s this little trail here. So, I think this is the way. Carol just found this place on Google Maps. So yeah, we’re just following the path. Wow. Yeah, that is the Wow view, man. Look at that. So that’s the beach that we’re heading to. Perfect. Isolated. Oh, this is where all the the boats are. So I think they have manta rays around here. So I think those boats from the bay all went around the island. And then on this side, there’s also other beaches just back there. Don’t know how you get to those, though. Yeah. So, we’ll make our way down to that amazing beach down there. This is the one that we weren’t planning to come to, but since we got the bike, we’re able to do it. And the the trail to the beach is way more overgrown, and it’s almost like a dead end now. even get through here. I think it is a dead end. Yeah, this path isn’t happening. I don’t see any other way there. We’re pretty close, too. Way too overgrown. All right, I guess we’ll just go to the the other beach that we wanted to go to. Then you’re going to see it’s absolutely spectacular. Anyway, [Music] [Music] I’ve got a feeling this is one of those classic examples. where Google Maps tells you to go away. That isn’t the correct way. We’re like completely on a farm road now. I really don’t think this is the the road we’re supposed to go on, but let’s see off road. Yeah, these bikes are pretty good, though. They they can handle this, too. Man, the chances of this leading to a a dead end is pretty high, man. What a wacky Google adventure. So, definitely not supposed to go down that farm road. I think this is the proper road that we pulled on now. So, probably from the main road you’d have come down here. This one looks fine. And we have made it. So this is Tabaga Beach. This beach is full of broken corals. I did see in the reviews that people said it’s pretty good for snorkeling. We’re going to be doing a proper snorkel trick tomorrow when we visit the other island. We’re also going to be visiting a beautiful waterfall. I imagine there’s probably another beach around this corner, around this rock. So many secluded beaches. So I think after the main island of Okinawa, Ishigaki is the most visited. I think this one is more popular than uh Makoima. More visitors. So, if you watched our video in Makojima, you would have seen that many people would take wedding pictures on the beautiful beach there that we went to. And now a bride has turned up, bride and groom over there. So, I guess they do it on this beach, too. So, I did some snorkeling here, but again, I didn’t see any turtles, unfortunately. We’re always seeing pictures of turtle turtles on Google Maps, but we haven’t been lucky yet. But hopefully tomorrow we’re going to see them cuz we’re doing a snorkeling tour. So we noticed that normally close to the beach the snorkeling is not so good. But I think if you do a tour it’s supposed to be a lot better. Yeah. They’ll take you to the real good reefs. Yeah. [Music] [Music] So, we’ve come back near Kabira Bay again cuz where we were had no restaurants or places to eat. They have all these food trucks. So, Carol just went to this one. It’s just closed now. So, got here just in time. I think they close around 2:00 p.m. Then you got a burger. Yeah, I got this isaki w Wu. Wagu. I don’t even know how you say that. The meat. Delicious burger. Yeah. And uh this was 1,600. Yeah. And I just got some chicken skewers. 600 each. Pretty big pieces. And some Coca-Cola from the vending machines. So good. I mean, I think one of the best burgers I’ve had in a while. That’s why they wrote delicious burger on there. It truly is. See how the skewer is. Yeah. Also really tasty. Guess you can pour the little lime thing on there, too. [Music] [Music] So, now we’ve come to a place called Yaima Village where you’re supposed to be able to see some traditional Okinawan houses. Really cool statue at the beginning. And another bonus is that it’s supposed to be pretty much guaranteed that you see these cute little monkeys here called squirrel monkeys. Mhm. Okinawan guitar. Yeah, it’s really cool. So, it’s 1,200 per person to enter. They give you this map. So, this is the monkey place. No food and drinks, tobacco, medicine, no bags. Think they have like lockers here. All right. Cool. They’re like a yellow orange orange color. Are those wrestling? Whoa, that’s quite a maneuver. Huge tail. Oh, apparently they come up to you. So, we’ll see. [Music] Here we go. [Music] He’s down. [Music] There is some serious jujitsu fighting going on here. It is like watching jiu-jitsu. Yeah, it’s like uh all of them like five or or six groups just fighting. It’s really funny to watch. So, this is the Kiyaba residence. Also got the cool music playing here. [Applause] [Music] It was established in 1923, year 12 of the Taiisho era. Now we’ve come to the farmer’s house. No idea what that would be for. Something that spins around. There’s also water buffaloos here somewhere. So looking forward to seeing those guys, too. Guess where they do some of the the cooking. Giant pan. Oh, that’s in Japanese. Says a date 1637 to 1903. Imagine coming out of Japan in like the 1700s or 1800s with everything looking like this. That would have been super cool. Another little kitchen. [Music] I love [Music] So, I mentioned uh jiujitsu. So, jiujitsu was actually invented in Japan, but then you have Brazilian jiujitsu, which is kind of the more famous one now. I think that was taken to Brazil by a Japanese immigrant in the past. Ah, here we got the the buffalo. Yeah, big one. Yeah, definitely need to take a bath because this heat, cooling down. And karate was invented in Okinawa. If you’ve watched a karate kid, Mr. Miyagi is from Okinawa. So that’s why cuz karate was invented here. Might get in there with him. The smell is not the best. No, it’ll be very stinky. Really does stink here. [Music] [Music] Now we’re going on the mangrove walk. Yeah. So, a really good variety of different things. And at 3:30, there’s also going to be a traditional live music show. So, we’ll go to that, too. Looks like you can do some kayaking and standup battle here. Must be like a separate tour. Yeah, that’ll be pretty nice paddling around here. I think in the next video we’re going to be doing something kind of like that. Yeah, should be awesome. Oh, is that real? Yeah. Look at the size of it. You saw some big ones in the Philippines recently. Balabak, I think. Some like that size. Yeah, similar size. So, this is the fisherman’s house. The one with the shell. Some giant sea turtles there. Got some more shells in the background, too. Corals, the nets. So, there’s a sign here explaining about this place, which is the fisherman’s house. And it’s written here, um, and I kept seeing this world uh, this word here, um, in the the t-shirts that were selling. It’s some souvenir shops around Okinawa, Okinawa Islands. and I searched and it means people of the sea. So, I guess it’s like a famous uh t-shirt to to buy here. I wanted to buy when I saw the the the meaning of it. It’s really nice. [Music] What have we got here? Almost looks like a mini fortress. It’s all in Japanese. Yeah, some of the things they put in English, others not. And that big island in the distance, I mate, that’s where we head in tomorrow on the day tour. I think it’s actually bigger than Ishiaki, but way less populated. So, before at the bay, we were just like on the other side of this mountain range. I think it’s basically the same mountains that we could see just from the other side. All right, the live music show starting in 10 minutes time. So, think we’re going to head there and try and get a good seat. for [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Yeah. [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] So, we ended up having to get a taxi cuz we misunderstood the bus times. I think the the bus would have been like 5:30 p.m. and it was only 4, so we didn’t want to wait over an hour. And now we’ve come to a cave, the Stallagite Cave. It’s a,200 per person, but since we got the taxi, the guy actually had like a discount voucher thing for us. 10%. I think this is the first time that we get a taxi that helps us with the money stuff because normally they want in other countries, not in Japan, but they might want more payment and stuff, but here the guy actually helped us. Yeah, he saved us money. It’s pretty rare in other countries that a taxi driver will save you money. I think it’s cooler inside. Yeah, it’s nice. Natural AC. We always love visiting caves like this. [Applause] Music’s going to put me to sleep. Seems like we’re the only people here. I think a lot of the the tours that people do probably ended at this time of the day after 4:00. So, this cave isn’t too far from the main town. Our original plan was to get a bus back to the town and then get one of those electric bikes. I think it would have only taken about 10 minutes to get here. This thing looks like a snowman. The snowman’s head. [Music] The complex is bigger than what I was expecting. I think we’ve been in here about 15 minutes so far and it still hasn’t ended. Wow, look at this part. It’s like it’s Christmas time. Yeah, with the music too. Put all these lights in here. [Music] It’s changing color, too. [Music] [Music] We’re in the souvenir shop now. I think that’s like a cartoon here in Japan. Ishigaki. Oh, nice. And then just like everywhere, you have the Orian things, even the flip-flops. Also, you see a lot of t-shirts and stuff with this spam. So me and cow were reading about the spam because we know that’s like an American thing and I think they said it it is because of the American presence on the island. I think uh this type of food was introduced here during the Second World War and then they did their own version. Yeah, they have their own version which is like a wrap but like a sandwich but with rice and seaweed. Yeah, seaweed. Yeah. There you go. More spam. I mentioned in the last video that one thing I like about Okinawa is that they have lots of flowery clothes. The locals are always wearing the shirts, things like that. So that’s really nice. Just like other Pacific islands, other countries. There’s some more. I have like two flowery shirts. Thinking of getting one. The cat. This is the mountain cat that they have from the island that we’re going tomorrow. Oh, they have it on the island. Yeah. I I don’t think you can see it, but they have it. The mountain cat is surfing. Definitely don’t think you’ll see that. So, that’s the archipelago, the group of islands. Yayyama. So, now we’re back in the area that we’ve been staying in. This is one of the main shopping streets. It’s really cool. It reminds us of the main shopping street in Naha on Okinawa Island because you have the palm trees going all the way down the road. We’re just making our way to the market. I think we’re going to buy some souvenirs. Maybe we’ll get some plum wine. Yeah. To take to Tokyo. It’s always been pretty laidback every time we’ve walked through here. There’s never that many people walking around. A nice relaxed vibe. Usually at night, it gets a bit busier. So, the other day we ate at a cool place on this little quiet side street. Which one was it, Carol? This Yeah, really good food. Some cool music, too. All the juicy delicious meat. These restaurants have a pretty cool style, also. playing the traditional music again that we just heard. So, you can find pretty much any souvenir that you want in this market. The stores are also gigantic on the inside. Got some interesting alcoholic drinks. This one seems to have a snake inside. Oh, look at the the fangs. Whoa. Wonder what kind of alcohol that is. That’s crazy. Ah, that’s what you was talking about before. The people of the sea umu more spam. Even got spam underwear boxes. So, I think we’re going to get this little bottle of umesu. I just translated it and it says that it’s from a brewery from Ishigaki, a local one. 734. I think I’m going to buy one of these for my mom. It’s a birthday soon. The shisa lions that you see on the front of many buildings in Okinawa, they always come in pairs. So, one is to keep the good spirits in and the other one is to keep the evil spirits out. That one looks cool. Maybe I’ll get that one. 3,410 [Music] [Music]
