Spike Chunsoft has revealed that the Danganronpa series mascot Monokuma will have a new Japanese voiceover in Super Danganronpa 2×2. The company has particularly appointed Wasabi Mizuta as its new Japanese voice actress.

For additional context, Mizuta-san is going to be the third Japanese voice actress for Monokuma, following the deaths of the first two. Monokuma was first voiced by Nobuyo Ooyama before Tarako replaced her in Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. However, both actresses passed away in 2024, with Tarako passing on March 4, even earlier than Ooyama on September 29.
The new appointment of Wasabi Mizuta also has a huge context in the Japanese voice acting scene, as she is also the direct successor to Nobuyo Ooyama for the role of Doraemon. Ooyama previously voiced the character for the Doraemon anime show that launched in 1979, before Mizuta succeeded her in 2005.

Super Danganronpa 2×2—to be known in the West as simply Danganronpa 2×2—will be available for Nintendo Switch 1&2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in 2026.
I hereby express my heartfelt respect and gratitude to Mrs. Nobuyo Ooyama and Ms. Tarako for breathing life to Monokuma up until now.
Monokuma, who was performed by both of them, is an irreplacable being in the series, and it has been long loved as the one and only character who has both humor and madness at the same time.
And on this occasion, it has been decided that Mrs. Wasabi Mizuta will take over that voice [role]. Everyone who has watched the new Monokuma may be surprised with the senses of freshness and security/stability.
The whole production staff team is fully looking forward to seeing a new breath and appeal residing in Monokuma, with Mizuta-san’s very own bountiful expresiveness and humor.
The whole staff team will continue to join forces in working to create more entries. We sincerely hope for all the same continued patronage from all our fans.
