Fushimi Inari Shrine Walk & Guide #kyoto #japantravel #japan

There is no better way to start the day than here at the Fushimi Inari Taisha which is the oldest shrine here in Kyoto and actually predates the city. It was built in 711 AD and is dedicated to the goddess of rice and prosperity and is also home to the 10,000 Tory gate path that we’re going to go and take a look at right now. And these gates are more than just decorations. They mark the entrance from the everyday world into the sacred. And their bright vermilion color actually wards off evil spirits and brings some good luck too. And the trail that we’re walking on right now is known as the Senban Tori. And it winds up the mountain 4 km. It takes about 3 hours round trip, but it will actually go up to the summit of Mount Anari. Along the way, you can see some beautiful temples and forests. They also have some viewpoints like the Yutsuji which marks the halfway point. And there I recommend going onto the forest path because it is even more magical. You walk through bamboo forests and these mosscovered shrines. I even got to be part of a ceremony the other day that was just so cool and the people were so friendly.

Kyoto Japan’s Fushimi Inari Shrine 10,000 Torii Gates to Heaven

Step into the magical world of Kyoto! ✨
Join me on a serene journey through Fushimi Inari Taisha, where thousands of torii gates line winding paths up Mt. Inari. This sacred shrine, founded in 711 AD, is dedicated to Inari, the kami of rice, prosperity, and business — and is the head of over 30,000 Inari shrines across Japan.

Along the trail, you’ll pass through the famed “Senbon Torii” — a tunnel of gates donated over centuries by worshipers and companies — inscribed with names, dates, and prayers. You’ll also spot fox statues (the divine messengers of Inari), lanterns, hidden shrines, and sweeping views of Kyoto if you keep climbing.

Whether you’re looking for spiritual calm, stunning photos, or a hiking escape inside the city — this walk is your gateway to both tranquility and wonder.

Come wander the gates with me — and find your own little moment of heaven along the way. ❤️
