Japan isn’t overrated — you just haven’t seen its quieter side yet! ⛰️

We need to stop only going to the same three places in Japan. This is Azumino, a lesserknown city just 3 hours from Tokyo. From natural rock slides to cliff jumps, Canyoning in Azumino is the perfect summer thrill. And yes, the wet suits really help with the cold. This is Dao Wasabi Farm, the largest wasabi farm in Japan. We took a little boat ride through the crystal clear spring water, feed in of course, and tried wasabi ice cream, which was actually really good. While Dio might not offer wasabi picking, we found a smaller local farm nearby that did. After harvesting and cleaning the leaves, which you can cook and eat by the way, we got to bring our little wasabi home. Azumino is made for exploring on two wheels. Japan isn’t overrated — you just haven’t seen its quieter side yet! ⛰️

Just ~3 hours from Tokyo lies the lesser-known Azumino, a laid back city that’s especially perfect in summer. Think cool mountain air, endless green fields, and plenty of outdoor adventures.

Here are 5 fun things you can do in Azumino ⬇️

1️⃣ Canyoning
Leap off cliffs and slide down natural rock slides into refreshing alpine water. Don’t worry — insulated wetsuits will keep you warm! 🥶

2️⃣ Visit Japan’s Largest Wasabi Farm
Stroll along crystal-clear streams, see how wasabi grows, and even try wasabi ice cream (yes, it’s a thing and it is really yummy) 🍦

3️⃣ Wasabi Harvesting
Fun fact: most “wasabi” in stores aren’t the real deal. In Azumino, you can try harvesting the authentic stuff yourself and bring some home 😉

4️⃣ Explore by Bicycle
The best way to see Azumino? On two wheels. Ride past rice paddies with the stunning Northern Alps as your backdrop 🚲

5️⃣ Soba-Making Workshop
Soba noodles are an Azumino specialty. Roll, cut, and cook your own — though fair warning, it’s trickier than it looks!
