The European Union (EU) participated in the Ukraine Mine Action Conference (UMAC) 2025 that was held in Tokyo, Japan on 22-23 October 2025. Peter M. Wagner, Head of the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments, attended on behalf of EU High Representative Kaja Kallas.

In a video address to the gathering, High Representative Kallas noted that ‘no other country in the world shows us more how devastating mines are than Ukraine’.

‘We must all do more, and this is why together with Japan and our partners around the world we will keep supporting Ukraine’s national programme “Demine Ukraine” coordinating humanitarian demining efforts in the country’, she added.

The EU will host the next UMAC, to be held in 2026, and a handover ceremony was held at the end of the first day of the Tokyo meeting.
