Tropical Botanical Garden in OKINAWA JAPAN | Relaxing Walking Tour
Hello everyone π
I hope you’re doing well! Today, I’m taking you to the Southeast Botanical Gardens, a vast botanical garden located in Chibana, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. This video follows the nighttime illumination video titled “Visiting a Park at Night in Japan ” For those who watched the night illumination video, you’ll see that the scenery looks completely different in broad daylight π The garden first opened in 1968, closed temporarily in December 2010, and reopened on July 6, 2013 under the management of the Tapic Group. Covering 100 acres, or about 40 hectares, it is one of the largest botanical gardens in Japan. The park features over 2,000 plant species, including around 450 varieties of palm trees, making it a true sanctuary of tropical biodiversity. Among the most remarkable specimens in the park are: King Palm (Archontophoenix alexandrae):
At the end of the video, you’ll see a majestic alley lined with these tall palms. Baobab (Adansonia): native to Madagascar, also called the βtreasure tree.β
Known for its many uses (leaves as vegetables, roots as medicine, etc.) Dragon Blood Tree (Dracaena cinnabari): this rare tree is known for its red resin, once used in medicine and dyeing. Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis): the floral symbol of Okinawa, this tropical plant blooms year-round and fills the park with bright colors. What you’re looking at here is a fern!
Impressive, right? π These are Bottle Palms.
Latin name: Hyophorbe Lagenicaulis Here, these are Date Palms. Throughout the visit, youβll find charming rest areas to peacefully enjoy the natural setting. The park also offers interactions with animals such as capybaras, squirrel monkeys, and goats. Educational workshops, bird shows, and seasonal events like nighttime illuminations enhance the visitor experience. Iβve dedicated an entire video to the night illuminations of this 40-hectare park.
Feel free to check it out if you haven’t seen it yet. Here are the Dragon Blood Trees (Dracaena cinnabari). Still with me? π The second park is located on the other side of the parking lot.
Though sometimes overlooked, itβs included in the entrance ticket, just like the main area. This second section, called Eco Light, features a botanical garden with night illuminations entirely based on LED technology. Thank you for watching until the end π
If you liked the video, don’t forget to like and subscribe. To continue the experience, I also recommend watching the video dedicated to the night illuminations if you haven’t already π
