Alabama now has economic development offices inside its three biggest international trade partners.
The state’s Department of Commerce Thursday announced it has hired two international advisory firms to represent the state’s business interests in Japan and South Korea.
This compliments an existing office in Germany, and establishes a direct link to two nations with companies responsible for almost $20 billion in investment in Alabama since 1999.
The Commerce Department said the firms will help connect state officials with international investors, support Alabama-based exporters and raise the state’s global business profile.
“Our relationships in Japan and Korea have long been vital to Alabama’s economic growth,” Alabama Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair said.
“With the help of these outstanding partners, we are doubling down on our commitment to strengthening those ties and opening new doors for investment, innovation and job creation in our state.”
Tractus, a global advisory firm specializing in direct investment, trade promotion and site selection, will head up the state’s efforts in Japan.
In South Korea, Alabama will be represented by Samil PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the country’s largest professional services firm.
Alabama opened an office in Stuttgart, Germany in 2019, with Christoph Dörr serving as the state’s representative there.
