The Kofu Local Meteorological Office announced on October 23 that it had observed the first snowfall on Mt. Fuji.
The observation is 21 days later than the average year.
At 6:00AM on the morning of October 23, Mt. Fuji was observed to be completely covered in snow from its summit down to around the sixth station.
Tourist: It’s more beautiful than Mt. Fuji in the summer. I’d like to come every year.
According to the meteorological office, snow is thought to have fallen near the summit of the mountain during the night of October 22.
Staff visually confirmed the snow cap at around 6:00AM the next morning.
This year’s first snowfall was observed 21 days later than the average year, yet 15 days earlier than last year’s observation, which was the latest on record.
Additionally, the city of Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture at the base of the mountain also made a ‘first snowfall declaration’ for Mt. Fuji on October 23.
