US President Donald Trump is poised to strengthen diplomatic ties with Japan during his three-day visit, commencing Monday. This marks a significant occasion as Trump meets Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who recently became Japan’s first female leader after winning the Liberal Democratic Party’s election.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara emphasized that Trump’s visit is substantial for bolstering the US-Japan alliance. The official agenda includes a meeting with Emperor Naruhito. Takaichi’s conservative stance and alignment with late Prime Minister Shinzo Abe may further enhance the two nations’ collaboration.
Despite the JIP’s hesitation towards taking Cabinet roles, Takaichi secured a formal agreement with Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura on political reforms, including reducing parliament members and revising social security. This partnership aims to address Japan’s political and economic challenges, setting a cooperative agenda between the parties.
