The Nakanoshima Pavilion Festival 2025 Executive Committee was established in conjunction with the Expo Osaka-Kansai. Since last year, the committee has explored from various perspectives the diverse attractions and potential of Nakanoshima, the symbolic island representing the water metropolis of Osaka. On October 8, a symposium was held at the Saji Keizo Memorial Hall, the University of Osaka Nakanoshima Center, to announce the “Nakanoshima Declaration,” the culmination of these efforts.
At the symposium, Executive Committee Chairman Shojiro Nishio (former President of the University of Osaka) issued the “Nakanoshima Declaration: Let’s Build Bridges from Nakanoshima.” The objective of the declaration is a call to build “six bridges” connecting present-day Nakanoshima, which has developed over time, to the world and the future, just as Yodoya Joan first built a bridge to Nakanoshima in the early Edo period, marking the start of its evolution as a storehouse district.
The six new bridges to be built are as follows:
Building a bridge to the city’s charmBuilding a bridge between the environment and peopleBuilding a global bridgeBuilding a bridge of networksBuilding bridges to enrich the lifestyles of individualsBuilding a bridge to future society
Following this declaration, members of the Nakanoshima Pavilion Festival 2025 Executive Committee presented action plans, exploring the future potential of Nakanoshima from multiple angles. We very much look forward to further efforts to build new bridges from Nakanoshima.
In response to this declaration, an outdoor discussion event titled “Nakanoshima Long Table vol.0: ‘Making Osaka Exciting from the Core’” will be held on Saturday, November 8, with a long table set up in front of the Osaka City Central Public Hall.
