North Korea fired off several short-range ballistic missiles on Wednesday, Seoul said, providing new Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi with an early test just a day after she took office.

Takaichi told reporters that Japan, South Korea and the United States were closely coordinating on the launches, “including with real-time sharing of missile-alert data.”

There were no indications that the missiles had landed in Japan’s territorial waters or inside its exclusive economic zone, she added.
