Japan has been named “Asia’s leading adventure tourism destination” at this year’s World Travel Awards, surpassing Indonesia which is last year’s winner.
Japan is considered an adventure tourism destination thanks to its diverse landscapes, rich culture, and wide range of activities, from hiking ancient trails and skiing in Hokkaido to scuba diving in Okinawa and exploring volcanic regions.
Its well-developed transportation network also makes it easy to access these adventures from major cities.
Japan received 31.65 million foreign visitors between January and September, up 17.7% year-on-year.
The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, recognize excellence in the travel and tourism industry and are often referred to as the “Oscars of the travel industry.” These annual awards are determined by votes from both travel industry professionals and the public.
