Celebrity Millennium 12-Night Best of Japan & Nebuta Cruise ’25 – Part Seven – Aomori Nebuta Parade
Welcome to part seven of our Celebrity Millennium Japanese cruise series. This time we visit Amorei in the north of Japan for the annual Nibuta Festival. [Music] Good morning from Amorei. Amorei. Amorei. Sorry. Amori, which is our final port uh on the itinerary before we head back to Yokohama before heading into Tokyo. So, it seems like we have a little welcoming committee beneath us. Uh it’s about 9:00 in the morning. It’s a bit overcast today. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. We had enough sun yesterday it lasts a lifetime, I believe. So in Amorei when we’re here is the Nibuto festival which is uh lanterns, parade, floats, etc. etc. It’s a big it’s a big deal apparently. So they’ll see some of that during the course of the day hopefully. It’s a walk-off port. No shuttle buses required which is our favorite type. I’m trying to see what these guys go down here. Passengers of the Celebrity Millennium. Good morning. Welcome to Ali and thank you for visiting our city. Now then we have a group of the musicians and dancers from Kachina Summer Festival in city here today to welcome you all to all court. [Music] If you weren’t already awake, that would wake you up. Another customs process, but took all of 20 seconds. Little another form to fill in straight off the ship. Heading into Amorei. Amori amori amori. I don’t know. Amori. There’s a little map. It looks like we just got to walk straight down and then we come to a corner and it says Shim Shin Machi Street. Okay. And then it looks like we just go all the way in. Awesome. And no, no breaking world news. It’s hot again. Uh very humid again. We had a little bit of a late night last night. We’re relatively late night. We were up past midnight. I think that’s first for us. It is a first for us. That is actually a first. It was also a first. The ship was quite lively last night. It was really busy. It was lovely. Uh up in the party night last night, wasn’t it in the sky lounge? But we were still sensible. We were like Cinderella at midnight. We were actually didn’t although we were drinking unlike some of their people with us. We uh we were all right. We from up north. It was fine. Yes. Uh Terry and Paula dead canny. Uh they’re suffering this morning. I say Terry is. They didn’t go to bed till after 2:00 apparently. Big mistake. Huge. And uh he was drinking cosmopolitans. Oh wow. Until the we early hours. So yes, I think he’s Well, yeah. I don’t think he is. I know he’s struggling this morning. I definitely had a martini. He did have a martini. I to be fair though, I keep leaving them. Like I don’t drink everything. So I had a Red Bull when they had a martini. That was good. It’s actually the only day we’ve done it really, isn’t it? It is. On the plus side, this weather, it’ll sweat any alcohol at your body very quickly. That’s true. So, you’ll recover quite quickly as long as you’re putting all the fluids in to replace it. So, we’ve already had a bottle of picari sweat and we’ve got a bottle of water with us plus a coffee. So, we’re good to go. Got the festival later on like walk back out. First signs of Amorei are quite pretty. Yeah. Port. Uh, so this that bit. This is the north of the island. So we’re like right. So this apparently not today cuz it’s red hot in the winter is where it snow. This is where it snows the most. So getting all snow and really really cold. Okay. Awesome. Sweating already. Really really close today. Just walking aimlessly. Spot a little shrine which I’ll have a look at in a second. Just down the court down the street. This lion dude [Music] is lovely. Cheers. Umbrella’s up again. Okay, that hit us a little bit. No d idea what this shrine is, but I do not know Brady. Some very large fish. Completely unassuming little shrine. It’s absolutely gorgeous. Many of the shops in Amorei were closed during our visit and truthfully the steps and miles were catching up on us. I saw the flag a bit. Uh, I’m incredibly hot and sweaty. Trying to find a little bar or something. Essential vending machines. Life service. This is a nice one. A sparkly one. I like it. Yes. So, it’s still hot. We’re heading up to There’s an observation deck on this tall building. [Music] Bridge is enormous as well. It’s a massive bridge as well. So, we’ve come to the 13th floor of the building is actually like it’s a tourist building. Oh, this has a picture of where you see it. It’s to show you can show you like different like this was like in summer. Yeah, it could be that. We only have three days left. [Music] I believe it’s gone by very very quickly. Lisa made the mistake of looking down cuz she’s not particularly good with heights. I thought it was only 250 to get up here because it’s not really that great. It’s a good view. Well, Lyn said it’ll keep you cooler said doesn’t work. Doesn’t work. Look how I’m walking around with my hair like really really. Oh, like some very nice lady said yesterday, no one knows you. Other way, I just put this on YouTube. They might. Not many. Not many to be fair. Old man sounds as he stands up there. Have you down here are the floats that’ll be coming out later this evening all lit up and we’ll sort of parade them through the town. So, we’ll be seeing that later on tonight. Looking forward to that. Uh supposedly one of the highlights of the trip. The glass fronted lift gave us some great views of the ship out of the parade preparation area. Yeah, we’ve been up there. There’s the really cool floats we were looking at from above. Yeah. So later on, this will be this will all moved out by later on. Yeah, this is for later on tonight. Yeah. So these floats later this evening will be all lit up and they are amazing works of art. I can’t wait to see them all. Everyone’s getting starting to get ready and get dressed up. Got salmon hats on for some reason because they bury the salmon at the end of the festival. Yeah. With tins of salmon. Yeah. But at the end of the festival, like the last day of it, they all have this salmon and they go and bury it or something like that. And then there’s fireworks. Okay. Something like that. Bury a fish. Yeah, something like that. For some reason, this lovely guy over there has given me a fish stick. Oh, I thought it was a towel. It’s fish sticks. Awesome. I mean, I don’t want the fish sticks. No, I don’t eat fish. Don’t know where I’m going to put them. That’ be cool if they don’t put all the firework, all the lightning. They’re They’re really big, aren’t they? As well. Really big. Yeah. At least transcended from the person who always look for sunshine is now the person who’s looking for the breeze to cool down. It’s that hot. Amori Harbor. There’s the ship again. It actually looks more impressive the further you are away from that building. How big it is? How high we were. See, we’ve had nothing planned for today uh in a mo. But other than this evening, there is going to go back out again later on when the when the floats will be going around and even then we don’t actually have a plan. We just kind of follow we well we can see it’s going to be from here, but I know people buy tickets to sell loads. Um but I think you can just wander around and see it. We’re not going to sit. You can buy tickets for areas like design designated areas viewing areas. Yeah. But we just wander around, see it from see it from a distance. So something to look forward to and something we’ve never likely to see again. It’s only on for one week a year and we happen to be here when it’s on. Actually, to be fair, that’s what the cruise was sold as, but we we just didn’t know that. We just No, we didn’t. It just happened to be Yeah. Where’s what was going to Japan? Yeah. And it it has not disappointed. Yeah, we’re going to head back to the ship now. Get some uh food. Little rice little rice snack was okay. I guess quality content made con glasses back off and on. That’s what people want to see. Random sea lion seals. Sea lions I think statue. Not say much cuz we’re so tired. It’s so hot. It’s very hard to think of something to save me this hot and this tired. So hopefully some of the sights make up the fact that I’m bit boring on this video. Feels like a lifetime ago got onto it. Seems like a lifetime ago got on board this Walking down here. Going to miss it. We’re going to miss it. It’s the nicest one. This is the Rendezvous Lounge, which is one of the closest bars to our room. The team in here were great and always had an ice cold drink ready for us. There was often live music here on an evening and it was one of our favorite spots on board. Good evening. It is Konicha. Konicha uh 25. We have been back on board the ship. Cooled down a little bit. Had a little bit of lunch. Been very good. Very, very good today. Had half a drink. Had half a drink each today so far. Uh, apart from water obviously. And we have just come back out again because it’s time to go to see the festival and the BHA festival which should be happening in the next hour and a half or so. Mhm. So, we’re going to try and find ourselves a reasonable spot. Yeah. to see what’s going on. There’s a little lease in the background. Little legs back over the fan. There are three fans. Only fans content. Uh so yes, that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to find somewhere nice to sit and wait for the all the floats to go past. So hopefully as the sun goes down, that’s going to look gorgeous. [Music] Everyone get ready to go to the festival. We we’ll be hearing that sound in our sleep for years to come. Whilst we wait for the parade to start, we stopped off in a friendly local bar. Right. I’m on them. I’m just going to camp high. Campai. The excitement amongst the locals was palpable as the parade got closer to starting. [Music] Each float had a team of young people to move them along the route. It really did look like a lot of hard work. again. Thomas little [Applause] [Applause] [Music] It’s marvelous, isn’t it? [Applause] Even the young children got involved with their own float. It was lovely to see. Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] site. You don’t often see a cruise ship at night from land. Mhm. Nor was sailing away by now. Long before now, actually. Been very fortunate to have two overnight port stops on this cruise. This itinerary. Yeah, you need an overnight. I like this. It is 9:35. 9:35. We’ve come back to the cabin with a cup of tea. See? And a lot a lot here. I know. And And a bit of cake. And also also we’ve come back to find oh yes the the cursed the cursed the dreaded tickets. It’s time to go home. Turndown is still a thing on celebrity chocolates. Chocolate on the pillow. I mean you know very kindly got a lovely collection of chocolates. Yeah. So yeah. So we’re um we’re going to bed really early cuz we’ve done how many steps have we done today, Peter? Uh I think about 19,000 today. Yeah. And Peter said we’ve done how many in total? So far have counted since the 23rd of July, we’ve done 85 miles walking in extreme temperatures. We should go back home. Skinny’s a rake. I was going to say that’s only work. No, never mind. It helps. Yeah. 8 85 miles and we’ve come to bed today. Here we’ve had a sum total of I think three drinks each. Thoroughly tidier. Next morning we took a relaxing breakfast in the salarium area enjoying it before the crowds arrived. We are heading to the Shaw Dbatsu. That was a very good pronunciation Peter. Yes, the sha daatsu which is the largest Buddha statue in Japan is the great display Buddha ghetto. I’ve heard that this morning. So come off the ship. Hang on. Hang on. Sorry. Not sure why he’s got me climbing up a hill in this heat. Well, cuz the the port authorities have started to block off certain parts of the the area ready for the water diver to display. So the water in the boot display. So anyway, we are heading to the station central station or central station and we’re going to catch a bus to the show dabatsu uh county. It’s quite the spectacle. So we will see that. Then we’re going to head back this way. Okay, we’re lost again. Look, unless you go around that way. Go on that way. Let’s go that way. We’re going that way. So anyway, yes. That is the sort of behind the scenes for all the floats we saw last night. Walk to the station, catch your bus. It’s about 50 minutes or so, all told. I mean, quite frankly, I might just stay here under this shed. It’s very welcoming. It’s all right on the front, isn’t it? When you get to this bit. Yeah, it’s Yeah. I mean, on the on the on the port side, it’s there’s a lovely breeze. Perfectly manageable in the shade. In the shade, not bad. It’s when you’re in the hot full heat of the sun and it’s only 10:00 or something if that. 10:30. 10:30. There we go. It’s only early. It’s only get hotter. I don’t think people need to see your hot face any longer. Hey, my hot face is good color. Front and center for this. This it is. It’s always front and center cuz you point the camera at you and then he goes, “Oh, I’m not bothered about doing this.” and he’s always in it. You just see me like, “Okay, I like to be filmed.” That sounded so wrong. The detail on these things. [Music] Unfortunately, we’ve missed the bus. Yeah. Just in case of traffic. I don’t do Unfortunately, no big Buddha statue for us today. Yeah, we were supposed to be seeing this. But anyway, that’s as close as we’re getting close. Yeah. Putting our disappointment behind us, we headed into the Nabuta Museum. So, it turns out if you are on a cruise and you show them your cruise card, you get a discount to the museum as well, which is handy. But this is called the Nabbouti Tunnel. This is what one of the floats looks like. inside all the different floats over the years. [Applause] The detail artistry is phenomenal. [Music] the innards. My god, there’s a lot of go into these These are all the various characters depicted in the floats. I think we see enough floats now. You’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all to a degree. Fairly short thing to visit. You can do it in 15 20 minutes at the most probably. That’s including watching some of the the little interactive shows, but really nice to see. So now we’re on the hunt for some something we can eat from the street food area. So this is an apple spring roll. I’m in street. So they in the area of the apple and babbor thing and this is the apple [Music] channel. Well, that is us officially broken. Literally feet just given up for the day. We haven’t got any Well, the lie. We did plan to obviously go to see the big Buddha. Couldn’t get there cuz we missed the bus. Was going to take you along. We thought we’ll go and see some of the temper temples in Amore. I think they’re just to the right here. But it’s I not good content, but we can’t be bothered. We’re going to use the next day and a half as I see day to get ourselves sorted out, recharge our batteries somewhat. Yeah. Uh ready to go again into Tokyo. Uh Amora has been a very pleasant stop. Yeah. I didn’t think I’d like it, but actually it’s been loads to do. Got another rice ball. Another 7-Eleven for family. Rice triangle. Can’t help it. They are nice. Cheap and so everything. Yeah. Here we are returning to our celebrity millennium home for the 12 days for the last time. It’s always a very strange sad feeling knowing you’re not next time we get off the ship that’s you getting off for good until next time you come back for another trip. bittersweet cuz you know we still have two nights to go. So all afternoon today and we have all day tomorrow at sea. Um and let’s not ruin it by being miserable by getting off a ship. Could be around the port. Not much to see to be fair. Not the most picturesque ports unless you’re higher up. Go do a bit of packing this afternoon. Not very exciting. And tomorrow’s the Brit Cases day out. I’m glad we had Tokyo to look forward to because if this is your last experience of Japan, I’d be extremely unhappy. I’d be gutted leaving in Tokyo. I’d be gutted leaving the airport. It’s been that good. Random convenience store purchase number 75. 40th something. Hey, what’s up? Another long day. Just try our yummy spicy karam mucho and say hi. It’s the accent, Peter. I can’t. The accent’s awesome, isn’t it? I am doing wonders for the Anglo Japanese uh relationship here. Done plenty for the economy, mind you. I’ve got this engine in the heat. This lady, how she got such energy in this heat. She said, “No, I’ll do it. Do it. Do it.” There’s the captain now departure. And the lovely people of Mor saying goodbye. God bless them. Oh, he’s running to turn something on. He’s got a speaker. Oh, I’m doing all the same. She is She’s really good, isn’t she? That’s her. [Music] God bless them. This is very special. Here’s the song. Starts crying. Don’t put me on the video. Even the security guards are taking pictures of the ship sailing away. We won’t be return this ship won’t hang on. The ship won’t be coming back here for another 6 months, 8 months, 9 months, 10 months that until uh ready for next festival just still spinning around. She’s crying. What a special place. What a special stop than the Buddha festival and everything. Well, laugh for some people their last taste of Japan or an airport. Pretty perfectly special. This is just a mess. To be fair, it does this to me in all as well, but this is even more special. My dad and mom know why. It’s actually been a real privilege to have been able to share in the festival. Lovely, lovely people. Everyone’s genuinely happy that we’re here. Going to the Nuta Museum this morning. There’s a sign saying welcome celebrity millennium. Anyway, going to try and get ready now. Lesson that’s still waving the flag. I’m going to sail away now for the last time. Sailing towards I’m wear Yes, I’m wearing another hideous shirt. Uh sailing toward Yokohama. And it’s one of those things you’re so excited like remember wasn’t god it feels like yesterday we were very excited up the crack of dawn to see the ship coming in and now with the people on that ship coming in so about quart 5 on Wednesday morning. Today’s Monday we’ll be sailing in under Yokohama Bridge. Excited cuz we’re going to Tokyo. This is without a doubt the best cruise we’ve ever been on. Such a special special place. Ever had a chance to come to Japan? Come to Japan. It’s just unbelievable. It’s just special. It is special. Special. If nothing else, come for the toilets. We’ve really missed the toilets on the ship because the toilets in Japan just amazing. If nothing else, come for the toilets. There you go. New slogan. Visit Japan. If nothing else, come for the toilets. The music is continuing. may not pick it up anymore. Same song now five times in the bands. I’m still crying. Actually, I’m not. I’m joking. I think still crying. I’m not again. It’s again, you don’t appreciate this. Uh the cruise ship coming to port is a big deal. So, people taking pictures. We’re heading into Tokyo in a couple of time where the real feel is 45, which I think sounds like real feel of hell. But we shall see. We shall see. Wow. Might need to buy lots more vests and a lot more black clothes. So when I look like I am finishing the London marathon after having after having walking 10 yards, I don’t look quite so scary to the locals. What’s really amusing is I’m 6′ 6 and a lot of the young children have never seen someone as tall as me. So look at who’s this fat old giant. That’s me. I must come back to Japan. Good evening. Don’t Good evening. Good evening. We did go out. We decided to go for an evening meal. It was a disaster. Right. Right. So, we did go for an evening meal. We did go for an evening meal, which we didn’t expect to at all. It wasn’t the most successful of endeavors. Unfortunately. Unfortunately. in the style of cruise ships these days. We were sat an inch from the table next to us. It wasn’t about that. I And to be fair, the gentleman next to us was very rude. Thank you. It was more about that. However, in positive news, positive news, I discovered on the second last night, they have an amazing guava and peach IPA on board. Terrapin. Terrapin craft beer. Very tasty. Right, you’re borrowing me now. Good night. In our next video, we enjoy a leisurely sea day, eventually make it to Yokohama before enduring the most chaotic departure we’ve ever seen on board a ship. [Music] Thanks for watching. Please comment, like, and subscribe. See you next time. [Music]
