After recent exposure on Japanese TV, the Nagoya Gomi Yashiki (名古屋ゴミ屋敷) has become a new tourist attraction in the city. People (like us) appear to film and have their photos taken outside a 3-story town house near Higashi Betsuin Station where the owner lives outside a mountain of garbage that spills out on to the sidewalk. When we visited the owner seemed on good terms with his neighbors, who seem to sympathize with a man who became a compulsive hoarder after the death of his father. According to press reports he has not entered his house for 6 years and sleeps every night among his garbage on the street.
