Seven meritorious students from Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) discipline at Khulna University are set to visit Japan to participate in the prestigious Sakura Science Exchange Program.

The academic visit is being facilitated under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier this year (March 2025) between Khulna University and University of Yamanashi, Japan.

The student delegation will be led by Professor Dr. Sohel Mahmud Sher of ECE discipline.

The group will stay in Japan from October 26 to November 1, during which they will take part in lab visits, workshops, seminars and industrial tours hosted by University of Yamanashi.

The program will offer the students first-hand exposure to cutting-edge technologies in artificial intelligence (AI), optical communication and modern engineering systems, while also providing cultural immersion and insight into Japan’s education system.

Earlier on Sunday, the selected students paid a courtesy visit to Khulna University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim at 10:30 AM, where they briefed him on the program’s objectives and their upcoming activities.

Congratulating the students, the Vice-Chancellor said, “As ambassadors of Khulna University, you will enhance our image abroad through your participation at University of Yamanashi.”

The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the students to use this opportunity to think innovatively and pursue future prospects in higher education and research.

He also urged them to explore scholarship programs offered by Yamanashi University.

He further expressed hope that such global academic exchanges will continue to expand, noting that a total of 10 students from Khulna University have participated in international exchange programs this year alone.

He emphasized the growing importance of international collaborations in advancing the university’s academic goals.
