Walking Through Fukui City: From Dinosaur Statues to Katamachi Nightlife
I set out on a journey to Kansai to visit my family home in Kobe. Along the way, I planned to stop by several towns as I traveled west, and on the return trip, I intend to visit other places that catch my interest before heading back to the Tokyo area.
Now I’ve arrived in Fukui City, the capital of Fukui Prefecture. Around Fukui Station, you’ll find dinosaur statues scattered throughout the area — quite a unique sight. The station area is currently being redeveloped, and the city feels like it’s transforming into something new.
Near the station, there’s a shopping arcade and some narrow side streets with a nice atmosphere. However, since it was a Wednesday, the area was quiet and not many people were walking around.
I also walked through Katamachi, a nightlife district about ten minutes from the station. Because it was midweek, there weren’t many people out, and the most noticeable figures were the touts standing along the streets. Next time, I’d like to visit again on a Friday night to see how different it feels.
