I think it probably started long ago when families grilled leftover rice over the irori — a small hearth inside traditional Japanese homes. 🔥
It was a simple way to warm up cold rice and give it a crispy, toasty flavor.
Later, people started brushing soy sauce on top — and that amazing smell basically became the “scent of home” in Japan. 🍘✨

    Made some for the first time recently. Brushed on some miso butter. Kids absolutely loved it.
