A Japanese enthusiast dedicated more than a decade to owning the world’s only road-legal Lamborghini Diablo GT2.

The track-only supercar was delivered to its current owner in less-than-ideal condition.

But the owner has spent the past 10 years carefully restoring this car to its former glory.

And now he owns the world’s only road-legal Lamborghini Diablo GT2.

Japanese man converts racer into road-goer

Syuichi Kinoshita is the man who sits at the heart of today’s restoration story.

It was actually Kinoshita’s friend who was obsessed with hunting down this Lamborghini Diablo GT2.

And he found it – but the supercar arrived in horrendous condition.

The scale of the work facing Kinoshita and his friend proved to be overwhelming.

But the pair were determined to convert this extremely rare track weapon into a road-legal beast.

And it has been a journey that has consumed the last decade of the pair’s lives.

Because so few Lamborghini Diablo GT2 units were ever made, getting parts proved hellish.

Those that did appear were being sold for astronomical prices.

Kinoshita faced months-long waiting times for custom parts, as many original pieces simply don’t exist.

Such a large-scale conversion project required extremely careful planning and consideration.

Kinoshita fabricated an aluminum tank to replace the racing Kevlar cells.

A brand-new front-lift system was also added, because the original ride height system was unusable on public roads.

Multiple exhaust mufflers and a valved exhaust also quickly became necessary.

This was in order to save his neighbors from the fury of an unrestricted racing exhaust.

Far from hiding his project away, Kinoshita is delighted to show it off regularly.

He frequently drives his Diablo GT2 to Lamborghini owner meets.

Lamborghini Diablo GT2 is the rarest of the rare

Remember how we said that this Lamborghini Diablo GT2 was extremely rare?

Well, it was about as rare as you can imagine – because only two were ever made.

Yes, Reiter Engineering only developed two Lamborghini Diablo GT2 cars.

These were created for use in the old FIA GT Championship.

Before you ask, these cars were not simply modified road cars.

These Lamborghini Diablo GT2 cars were fully developed racing monsters.

They both featured extensively modified 6.0-liter V12 engines producing 600hp.

Sadly, the competition was short-lived.

These Diablo GT2 cars would only see action on the asphalt twice.

Entries at Japan’s Nogaro and Spa Francorchamps in Belgium spelled the beginning and the end of the program.

But the Lamborghini Diablo GT2 lives on, thanks to Syuichi Kinoshita.
