TOKYO: Immersive art museum teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM in Toyosu has been named Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2025 at the World Travel Awards, marking its second win after first receiving the honor in 2023.

The award, often described by the Wall Street Journal as the “Oscars of the travel industry,” recognizes top global destinations through votes from travel professionals and the public across more than 200 countries.

This recognition comes as teamLab Planets celebrates a major milestone, welcoming over 10 million visitors from 211 countries and regions since opening in 2018.

Around half of these visitors were international tourists, many of whom reportedly planned their trips to Tokyo specifically to experience the museum’s interactive, water-based installations.

The attraction also topped Honichi Lab’s 2025 Inbound Popular Tourist Spot Ranking (Tokyo) for the third consecutive year, ahead of iconic sites such as Sensō-ji Temple, Tokyo Tower and Shibuya Scramble Crossing.

Following an expansion in February 2025, teamLab Planets unveiled new outdoor areas, including Glass House, where guests can sip tea or sake among orchids that bloom from the museum’s signature Floating Flower Garden, and Emptiness Table, where visitors enjoy Vegan Ramen UZU Kyoto surrounded by digital art.

These additions highlight teamLab’s ongoing mission to merge nature, art and technology into immersive, multisensory environments.
