πŸŒ… The Most Romantic Walk in Italy! Passeggiata Anita Garibaldi at Sunset (4K) | Nervi, Genoa

Welcome to Nervi, Italy along the beautiful Ligurian Coast. Tonight, we’ll follow the sea, from the historic port to the magical moonrise about 1.5 miles down the coast. The Porticciolo (little harbor) has been the heart of Nervi for centuries, once a vital fishing hub. Notice the traditional Liguria-style houses, painted in warm terracotta and pastel colors. Stop here for a true local experience: a glass of Vermentino (a crisp Ligurian white wine) at a small bar. Did you know? Nervi is famous for its Parks, known as the Parchi di Nervi. They are right behind those buildings! I might need to come back to do some metal detecting at the parks! πŸ™‚ Even today, local fishermen tie up their small boats, or gozzi, here after a night on the water. Nervi is a charming and elegant seaside village just a few kilometers from the center of Genoa. Between the end of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century, the natural bay of Nervi was transformed into a small port. The Municipality of Genoa wanted to promote tourism in this location so loved by foreigners, thanks also to its proximity to the train station. A small port was also built where the fishermen’s boats are still moored today. The Piazzetta is named for Egidio Cressi, a prominent local figure who worked to preserve the beauty of Nervi. Ready to begin the Passeggiata? This path is waiting… The walk is named after Anita Garibaldi, the Brazilian wife of Italian unifier Giuseppe Garibaldi. We are now walking on the old sea cliffs. The path was created in the mid-19th century by carving into the rock. Can you smell the salt air? …no, probably not, but it’s there. πŸ™‚ The promenade is nearly 2 kilometers long and connects Nervi to Capolungo. The cliffs below are a mix of volcanic rock and limestone, sculpted by the constant waves. The golden hour is upon us. This seaside promenade follows the trainline which is to our left. The Genova Nervi train station is directly above us to our left. It takes about 15 minutes to get here from the Genova Brignole train station. If you stay on the train for another 15 minutes, you’ll be in Santa Margherita Ligure. From here, it takes about an hour to get to the first town of the Cinque Terre, Monterosso al Mare. If you are interested in seeing more videos of the Italian Riviera, I have a playlist on my channel. The Italian Riviera is the the narrow coastal strip in Italy which lies between the Ligurian Sea and the mountain chain formed by the Maritime Alps and the Apennines. Or in other words, it stretches from the border of France to La Spezia, which is about 100 km south of here. The Italian Riviera is divided into a western section, the Ponente Riviera, and an eastern section, the Levante Riviera. The Italian Riviera boasts over 300 days of sunshine a year! More than just beaches: the Riviera offers sailing, rock climbing, and beautiful golf courses. All along the coast, you’ll find colorful towns alongside centuries-old farmhouses and luxury villas. To our right is a hotel and beach club. We’ve reached Torre Gropallo, a classic medieval watchtower built in the 16th century. It was built to spot and defend against Saracen pirates who raided the coast. Looks like it could use some paint! The tower marks the approximate half way point for the Passeggiata Anita Garibaldi. Down below is the Blu Marlin restaurant. These are some boat houses and storage lockers. The Blu Marlin is a popular spot, right on the water. Great for a classic Ligurian seafood dinner. What a beautiful place to spend a warm evening along the Italian Riviera. Enjoying the view? Hit the Like button to support the channel! The tunnel at the top of the steps is the end of Via Serra Gropallo. There is about 0.4 miles (0.7 km) left of the path. I arrived in Genoa just two days earlier on Thursday the 4th. I spent Friday exploring the city and filming a few specific locations. On Saturday, the day I filmed this evening walk, I also filmed a walk around the city of Genoa. The Genoa walking tour will be out next week. It is 4 hours and 40 minutes long. If this sunset made you smile, please Like the video! It really helps us out. The path ends at the buildings up ahead. We will go down to the rocks below to get one final view of the coast. Give the video a Like! It’s the easiest way to support more walks like this one. Thanks for watching! Ciao! Ciao!
