Sapporo Autumn Festival – Odori Park Sapporo Japan
Good morning from Saporro. We are in Odori Park this morning and we’re as luck would have it just in time for the fall festival. Runs for quite a few months, couple of months anyway. And it’s in Odori Park spread out between seven areas that we’re going to walk through today. And we’re taking you along. You know it. [Music] A lot of the flowers are still in bloom here. [Music] Genie, what’s the temperature? [Music] 66. Feels warmer than that. Yeah. [Applause] [Music] If you would like, you can certainly take this elevator up to the observation deck up there and get a view. You can see one of the elevators going up right now. [Music] Genie is going to go investigate the uh ticket price. To me, it looks like right there it says uh standard fees age 15 and older is a,000 yen a person. So 2,000 yen to go to the top for us. You can do the day and night if you want for the same price. No, I think we’re good. I’m pretty sure that you all know that uh the Winter Olympics were hosted here. I couldn’t remember when. I thought it was an age, but I looked it up. It’s actually 1972, they had the Winter Olympics in Saporo. So, this is what you’re paying for. This view right here. And you can clearly see that the clock tower is the end or beginning of the park, what have you. And you can see that if you go any other direction, it stretches out pretty far. Let’s see if we can’t zoom in on this. The whole That’s right. So, what we’ll do when we go down is we will start from here and bring you back through the whole park. Beautiful, beautiful mountain range. So, that was definitely worth it. That’s the observatory you definitely want to go to. It was uh about $14, $7 each to go to the top for that money shot. Let me tell you something. Jean’s got a little fun fact for you. The power fun fact, the tower was built in 1957 and it’s 90 m up to the uh observatory deck. So uh you get a beautiful view of the city. [Music] [Music] Okay, this is where we started from and we’ll go the opposite direction since we know that the rest of the park lies beyond [Music] that and then you can go and get any of the things you want. [Music] This guy right here, he’s selling scallops. Scallops. Delicious. Very, very delicious. See, I told you. That’s right. We just had breakfast, so we’re going to move on. This is a cute park, huh? Yeah, very cute. And a lot going on. Certainly is. And looks like this area has uh the main stage. And I’m sure they have nightly bands at least on the weekends. Today’s Saturday, so I’m going to go ahead and take a wild guess that they have special bands here. This guy’s doing schwarma. This whole lineup here, right? That’s pork shwarma. Mhm. All right. There’s a lot of music coming up there, so I’m going to have to cut it right here. [Music] You like craft beer and craft wine? This might very well be for you. Not for me, but for you. Meat on a stick. Yeah. Yes, for sure. I wish this video would be able to give you the smells that we’re smelling. It’s not like carnival food. It’s really good food. No. These people in Japan take their food really, really seriously. So, you are not going to see shitty food. You know what’s popular here is venison. Mhm. Yep. This is your October Fest right here. [Music] [Music] I guess venison’s a pretty big deal here, too, because they have a whole venison restaurant right here. Anything you want. Looks really good, too. But like I said, we just finished breakfast. It’s early in the morning, so it’s too early to start eating this type of food. But again, if you are a beer person or a wine connoisseur, this is place, this little section of the park is for you. It’s all craft wines and beers and sakis and what have you. Is it too early for ice cream? It’s up to you. Not for those people, that’s for sure. [Music] Jeannie just canled our reservation at the French restaurant. She says this is where we’re eating tonight. Big variety. That’s a huge leap. When she decides no French food, this guy over here is doing scallops and scallops and snails. Green grill. Green conchk. Green grill. Green grill. Grill. Yeah. Okay. I tried those before as you remember in Taipei and that didn’t go out very well for me. Green wheel. Yeah. Green wheel. Wheeler. Oh, whale. I think it’s snail or conchk. They’re telling me real, but whale. Whale. Whale. Whale. Whale. Okay. Whale. Oh, okay. Maybe they stuff whale in there. I don’t know. But hey, we come back tonight. Yeah. Thank you. Okay. We see you guys on YouTube. Yes. Yes. Okay. This guy’s got the blow torches. Both these guys got blow torches. Cheese mushrooms. Ah. Shrimp rolls. Real shrimp rolls. You see the shrimp hanging out there? That’s real. Yum. These guys are doing fish on a stick and something else. Not quite sure what they are, but they’re soy sauce. flour and brown sugar syrup. Ah, probably some salty fish, eggs, and cheese according to that sign. Okay, let’s move along. This is the Saporro Chef’s Kitchen. And it must be something because the line’s pretty big. I think that’s today’s specials. And as you walk through the line, you can see in the background all the chefs actually cooking in here. [Music] [Music] Sonic go. Steak steak. Rice. [Music] We haven’t found espresso soft serve since Kyoto. Man, would I like to get Get a cone of that. Wagu. Okay. Hello, Wagu. Yes. So, like we were telling you earlier, Saporro was the site for the Winter Olympics. What is she doing? We have reached a rose garden for sure. One of the signs said it’s a Portland sister city. And I’ll tell you right now, Portland doesn’t look like this. The fountains aren’t running. The fragrance of the roses is incredible. See this spider? This thing attached to me when I went through the rose garden. And when I bent down to untie my shoes, it jumped off. And that wraps up our Odori Park walking tour. And if you got any value out of this, please give us a thumbs up and please subscribe. We’re going to leave you with some of Jeanie’s pictures of the roses. See you next time. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. N. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] [Music]
