Tokyo’s Hidden Soba + Sake Gem | One Shop You Can’t Miss
Last time we took you guys to an awesome soba place in Tokyo. We’re going to be trying another one. Soba is definitely something you have to try here in Tokyo. We’re excited to be trying a new place. Welcome back to Tabit and welcome to Tokyo is where we explore the best food in the city. So today we are here in Gota in Tokyo. We’re going to be going to a place called Soa Gautan. We’ve never been here before, so we’re super excited to try this place out. We heard good things about this soba shop. So, let’s go. This soba has a two section. Inside is a regular restaurant. Near the door, there is a standing bar. You can drink Japanese sake here. Yeah, I like this. If you’re in the mood for just like a a couple of drinks and maybe a couple of bites like they actually have a tempura that you can order individually. This is a stick templ. Yeah, this is great. So, we ordered a couple of sake. We thought why not? Can’t believe it’s still lunchtime, but we’re drinking sake. So, I got one of my favorites and many of you guys like this one as well. This is a Dasai 45. Mine is I got the small size. You got the larger size. Well, they really fill it to the brim and beyond. How do you drink this? There’s like sake in my plate. Oh, no. Oh, just Okay. All right. Oh my gosh. M. Wow. Dasai. Oh wow. I haven’t had dasai in a while. It’s really good. It’s aromatic. Yeah. Smooth and fruity. Oh my gosh. I’m just going to drink this. Mine is nice in. And the rice. It’s very refreshing. So, we’re at this soa shop enjoying our sake. We haven’t eaten anything yet, but um look at this selection of sake. So much good sake here and at very reasonable prices and we’re in the middle of the city. Very very surprising. So we ordered some really unique appetizers. These are typical of really good soba restaurants. This round one it’s called soba. Originally sobba is eaten like this not a noodle style. So this is the original. Yep. I see. And this comes with some condiments. Uh green onions, wasabi and the one more thing is isiyaki. Soba miso. Stone grilled miso with soba. On top it’s sobba seed. Wow, this looks really hot. It smells very aromatic. Almost like miso. Oh, you said it’s miso. So miso. Interesting. Okay. All right. Let’s give it a try. Okay. So, I want you to try this soba miso. So, miso. Just take a little bit of soba miso. Oh, drink. Awesome. Okay. [Music] M m. Nice miso flavor. Wow. Not only that, the tusha of this soa. Yeah. It’s like crunchy. It It’s kind of like the crunchiness of like granola. Mhm. And drink sake. Oh my gosh. [Music] M. That’s like a match made in heaven. Yeah. Oh, I really before. So, this is um made with soba. Soba and miso. Miso. So there’s sobba in the miso or is it just a really? It has another dimension of umami. Oh wow. I’ve never had this before. That is so good. Cooked miso with soba. This grill. That’s very nice. Okay, so I cannot wait to try the what is this again? Soaki. Soaki. This one I also never had before. M looks like a moi but tender soft in the flavor of soba. Yes. I was going to say that it’s like eating a fluffy pillow of soba noodles kind of like that because it’s a noodles. It’s like almost like before making into noodles. You can really taste the bucket flavor and it goes so well with the wasabi and the soba seeds. Of course, it’s very good to pair up with this Japanese sake. This is kasumi soba mullet roll soba noodles. Interesting. Mullet roll. Salted mullet rolled on top of soba noodles. So Japanese very popular sake snuck. Wow. Okay. Like like you know like when I go to like soba shops, the really casual ones, I I don’t see any of these dishes. So this is exciting for me. Mhm. [Music] Oh my god. This reminds me of like um pasta, which is like, you know, salted um a cod roll with pasta. It’s kind of like the soba version of it. It’s um salty, but that’s what makes it perfect for sake. So flavorful sake. It’s really good. Yeah, Kasumi is a very good sake. If you guys like sake, good sake, and you guys want food to pair with sake, like the perfect pairing, this is it. This and the miso and that soba ball. So good. Okay, it’s time to eat our soba now. I think our soba’s ready. We’re going to go eat the soba in the main dining room. Okay, soba noodle time. Mine is kare namban sobba means curry sobba noodles. So Santa is onen egg means the hu boiled egg and around egg it’s pork meat and onion and green onion. Okayas look this thick curry soup looks like it’s a gravy. In Japan soap of curry is very popular because this soup has a umami of dashi. Yes, the curry noodle combined with dashi taste. It’s really really good. Okay. So noodles soba and curry taste combines very nicely. Egg and curry grab is a very nice combination. Looks nice. M the egg make this curry flavor milder but at the same time different flavor profile become into one. So let’s add a piece of pork. Curry soba is very popular dish here in Japan. Please try. Please try. Okay. I got their weekly special. That’s really interesting. They actually have a weekly special. Every week there’s a special dish that they only serve that week. And this week it is cold soba with kakyaki tempura made with shrimp chikua fishcake and shimmei mushrooms. And of course it comes with your soba sauce, your condiments such as green onions and wasabi and your tempura sauce. Looks really good. So the noodles here are a little bit lighter in color. Uh this is made with 80% buckwheat, 20% flour. So I already got my wasabi, green onions. Dip it into the soup. Itaki mos. Oh, it just goes right down into my mouth so smoothly. The flavor of the soup is just salty enough. Really good soy sauce and dashi flavor. Okay, let’s try my kakyagi tempura. I love kakiyaki tempura as you guys know. And look how big it is. It’s like not quite as big as my face, but it’s pretty big. Look, I can see a shrimp in there. can dip it into that tempra sauce. Oh, that is super flavorful because they’ve added benisoga which is red pickled ginger. Gives a little bit of acidity and sourness. So crispy, freshly fried. After you eat a bite of that, make sure you take another bite of the soba for that perfect combination. [Music] So, I really like the menu at this shop. Of course, they have your typical cold soba noodles. They have uh nine different varieties. And they have 11 different varieties of hot soba. You can even get a large size of soba for an additional 190 yen. So, that’s good if you have a hearty appetite. And once again, I like the variety of side dishes that they have here. In addition to what we got, like we mentioned, you can get tempura, you can get oden, which is Japanese stew. You can even get get things like grilled duck and even um French fries. So, one tip, kin noodles splatter all over your shots. Sometimes if you worry about it, they have this like this. So, use this like this. It’s perfect. So, it’s very fun to eat. Yeah. Uh, you know, I I want to try the uh the miso again. This miso, guys, is a must. Really good. This miso is really good. Oh my god. I think I got to get another cup of sake. Oh, so good. Don’t forget to drink Japanese sake before you eating so noodles. Yeah, you know this kakiagake, the tempura, it is like chocked full of ingredients. So much shrimp in here. It’s so good. M. This is the way you enjoy a meal at a proper soba restaurant. Yay. I am so happy that we discovered another soba place. Me too. Me too. I think so, too. It was so good. You know what I like most about this place is that I got to eat things that I’ve never tried before. Even though I’ve eaten so like thousand of times. Yeah. Like the side dishes, the typical ones from a proper soba shop. The soba was delicious. And I I love the vibe of the place. Really really like it a lot. I want to come again and drink Japanese sake. Me too. Me too. I think this is a place that we can definitely come back with our friends. And you know this place is located in Gotanda. And it might sound unfamiliar to you, but it’s right next to Megro. Uh you can actually like walk over. I mean it’s like one station away. I think I I think I actually did walk over once. Oh, really? Did you? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, guys, if you’re in the mood for soba, make sure to check this place out. If you missed our last video, we did a another SOA shop. Please check that out. If you prefer Udon, we have an Udong video and that is actually currently my favorite Udong shop in Tokyo. So, watch those videos and let us know your thoughts in the comments down below. Thank you so much for watching and stay tuned for our next episode of Tokyo Eats. See you in the next one. Bye-bye. Bye. [Music]
Soba isn’t just another type of noodle — it’s a delicious, healthy, and deeply cultural part of Japanese cuisine. We visited Soba Gotan, a stylish soba restaurant just steps away from Gotanda Station in Tokyo. In this video, we try a variety of creative soba dishes — from Stone-Grilled Soba Miso and Freshly Whisked Soba-gaki, to Karasumi (dried mullet roe) Soba, Curry Nanban, and the Weekly Special Soba.
If you love soba or want to explore Japan’s noodle culture beyond ramen and udon, this place is a must-see!

Oh my gosh that sake looked delicious! You have such good taste. If I ever get to Japan again I hope I can go there. The soba was gorgeous. It would be a very good memory.
Love your channel, we'll be arriving to Tokyo in a couple of days, so excited!
💛…i realize there are many fluctuations in the currency market, but could you please give the usd equivalent of the prices?…it would be much appreciated…
Though it’s nice to eat out once in awhile, and showing viewers interesting places to eat around Japan 🇯🇵, but you two are wasting money 💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸everyday by eating out because you two NEVER but, prepare and cook your own breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You don’t know how to save money.
I like watching and sharing your videos with friends. My personal issue with videos like this one is that I cannot have any alcohol.
Shinichi: that tempura with the red bits of pickled ginger looked so yummy!
Satoshi: What a nice bib to wear while eating your curry soba!
Nice vid! Love your channel ❤️ Can you maybe recommend nice quiet Tokyo neighborhoods to explore without all the crowds? 🙏🏻
I adore cold soba with tempura ❤ literally salivating over here🤤
I'm going to visit Tokyo in about a month and I definitely will try this soba place!
Thanks for the video!❤
They will need to prepare English menu soon
That was interesting! I've never heard of Soba-gaki or Ishiyaki Soba Miso. I'd like to try both! Thank you, Shinichi and Satoshi, for taking us to Soba Gotan. One more place to add to my "must try" list. 👍
ffs go back to livestreams
Looks really tasty. I love kakiage with soba!
That looked delicious. We will stop by the next time we are in the area!
Thanks for sharing 😘😘❤🤩🥰😍
Two of my favorite things! Will have to try it when I'm in Japan next month, so thanks for the video!
I love that tenpura
A place in sakahogi Gifu used to make soba gaki ,it was like eating clouds made with 100% soba, its very vigorous work though.
Try a 100% soba place 80/20 isn't that special.
いつもおいしそう、次日本に行ったら絶対に食べに行く!
Never ever heard or have seen of this sobagaki soba ball, woow, I love to learn something new even after a decade of watching japanese related food videos. Looks a litte like a german "knödel" or "suppen klösse" and I wuld love it, something new on my bucketlist😅
Thank you TabiEats ❤😊
Love your videos ❤❤❤
Oh dang it, I was in Tokio in September and I‘m sad I did not know about this local. It looks so interesting!
Thank you for sharing!
Funny that Shinichi-san ate the whole serving of kakiage tempura at once! Also he said "20% flour," but the 80% part is also flour! Sobako.
I have never wanted alcohol and noodles so bad lol It all looks so good!
🖖🙂👍
So delicious in appearance!
This looks really delicious, especially the cooked miso….one of my favorite ways to eat miso.
I had the best soba in Karuizawa. With yamaimo.
Looks amazing! Could you guys find some vegetarian places? I came to japan last year and really struggled though I did find some nice ramen places with veggie ramen, though not 100% sure it still wasnt dashi or bone or chicken broth… thank you! 😀
are they KG teachers ?
Whenever I'm feeling stressed, your video comes in mind. Thank u.❤
What a fun idea a soba restaurant and standing bar and love how they pour the Japanese generous portions of sake. And such interesting soba related dishes. Also the atmosphere of the shop is so nice with the drawings on the wall.
