Anywhere is fine. I get off at any station that springs to mind and walk around the area. The moment I step off the train, my little journey begins, exploring an unfamiliar town on foot. This time, I started walking north from Shin-Yokohama in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. Leaving the hustle and bustle of the station, I encounter tourist facilities and off-track betting parlors, and the hustle and bustle of the city looms large and real. From there, I pass through a park and cross a triangular bridge, and a massive stadium appears before me. Japan’s second-largest stadium towers silently like a symbol of the city. Continuing my walk, I spot young people cheering in the plaza along the Tsurumi River, feeling the city’s quiet and vibrant interplay. This time, I wasn’t traveling to any particular landmarks, but rather to explore the ever-changing landscape. If I stop, I can see the expanse of sky; if I look back, the crowds recede into the distance. The sounds of water and wind flowing through the gaps in the city quietly speak to me about why I keep walking.
