We Found the Best Cherry Blossoms in Japan, Cruise Port of Hakodate!
Welcome to Hakodate, Japan. This is our second stop on our Trans-Pacific uh with Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas. And unfortunately, it is a bit of a cold and rainy day. But the plus side of coming in the spring is that we have the beautiful Sakura Blossom still going on. So, it is very pretty even if it is a little damp. Uh this town is known for its amazing seafood. So, I think that’s where we’re going to head first. [Music] As expected, the market had an amazing array of fresh seafood, including gigantic king crab legs and dried scallops. The market even had a section where they would grill up the seafood for you to enjoy right there. They also had some of the biggest and most expensive strawberries I’ve ever seen in my life. Heat. Heat. N. [Music] after checking out all that amazingly fresh seafood at the morning market. We built up quite the appetite. Yeah, there was an area to eat in the market, but it was very loud, very crowded, and busy. Uh, so we’ve decided to come down the road to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. We love that concept. It’s kind of fun to just pick off the plates of what you want. So, uh, they open at 11:30. Let’s go get some brunch sushi. [Music] We just finished up our amazing conveyor belt sushi restaurant lunch. Uh very delicious. Everything was amazingly fresh and awesome. Yes. Uh I would say that’s some of the best sushi we’ve ever had. Uh the medium fatty as well as the fatty tuna both fantastic. Uh the salmon was very good. The conger eel was spectacular. We did splurge and we got the king crab leg uh sushi. That was the sweetest crab leg I’ve ever had. Really good. But for me, the standout was the raw scallops. We got scallops three different ways. We got them raw, we got them uh grilled, and we got them in the little like kind of sushi cup sort of style. And definitely the straight up raw was the winner. But Hokkaido is known for their scallops, so obviously they were so fantastic and so fresh. That place was fantastic though. Everyone was so friendly. We also ordered sake. And normally, you know, they bring it in this little thing and then they bring these tiny little cups so you can pour it. But no, they brought us like glasses of sake. So, we ordered one and David got his glass of sake. So, then I’d order another one. Not complaining that I had to order a second sake. It was delicious. And everything was a really fair price for how much we had. We absolutely ate a ton of sushi because we knew it was our last sushi experience in Japan. But now, I think we’re going on a little hike up to the cable car. [Music] It’s less than a kilometer walk straight up a hill is the cable car. Yes. And once you get here, there are little ticket kiosk machines that you can purchase your tickets. You can use a credit card or you can use cash. Um, and it was uh 1,800 per person for a roundtrip ticket. So, we’re going to head on and get in our car. [Music] We made it to the top and the views up here are spectacular. Totally worth it. Yeah. Uh on one side you can see like these snowcapped mountains. Um then on another side you can actually see the little like ismas and you can see both sides of the ocean. And then if you look in the other direction you can actually see Amorei where we came from yesterday. Uh today while it is cloudy and it was raining earlier uh the visibility is fantastic. So really really beautiful. [Music] [Music] So this morning while we were at the market, we noticed a lot of people were selling these items that had this little white bird on them. There were pastries and other kind of knickknacks. Yeah. It looked like it was kind of like one of those normal like Japanese mascots, but no, this little bird actually exists. It’s so fat. It looks like a little like flying fat penguin, and I can’t believe it’s real. So, went ahead and got this in the gift shop as well as a couple other things. Um, but yeah, I just thought it was like a cartoon character. It would be like finding out that Hello Kitty was real. [Music] Well, right across the street from the cable car is a little park. We decided to check out. Yeah, we could see that they had some very beautiful cherry trees and they are massive and in full bloom right now. It is absolutely gorgeous. [Music] After checking out the Catholic Church and the Russian Orthodox Church, we’ve come to the old public hall of Akotate. Uh, this building is very impressive. It definitely has a very cool and not Japanese look to it. And that’s something we’ve noticed as we’ve walked through town is that there are definitely a lot of foreign influences here. We’ve some seen some buildings that look almost like French or maybe uh like UK British style buildings kind of like the one behind us. So, it’s a very cool mix of architecture here. [Music] So, just down from the old hall is yet another park. Yes. And this one, as you can see, has even more gorgeous zakura trees. These cherry blossoms are so beautiful. But now, after all this walking, I think we’ve earned ourselves a beer. So, our last stop of the day was to buy some souvenirs because that’s something that we normally don’t get to do. Yay. shopping. Now, the uh brick warehouses there, they had some very cute shops. A lot of stuff was handmade. Uh there was a good blend of like food and alcohol, clothing, jewelry, glassear. Uh and then a lot of like uh Sanrio and anime kind of stuff. It was It was a really fun little storefront to walk through. We really enjoyed it. And overall, I mean, I enjoyed our entire day here. Obviously, being here during the cherry blossom season made it better. Um, but then also it’s it’s cold and a little gloomy. So that’s what happens when you come in spring. But we had a blast. Definitely one of our favorite cruise ports we’ve ever done. It was really really fun. Uh, there is one thing that we did not do here. Uh, and it is a park. It’s a I think it used to be a fort, but it’s in the shape of a star. It’s really cool, but it’s a ways out of town, so you’ll either need to take one of the trams or hail a taxi. And our day was already so packed, we just didn’t have time to get to it. Um, but yeah, overall fantastic day. We really enjoyed ourselves. Thanks for watching and as always, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please leave them down below. If you haven’t already, check out our last video where we visit the cruiseport of Amorei, Japan. [Music]
