Do not fly out of Japan without seeing this. If you are leaving Japan from the country’s biggest airport, Narita, don’t be like everyone else and spend hours waiting at the airport glued to your phone. Instead, get out a bit earlier and explore Narita City, the town that gave the airport its name. The main highlight here is certainly Narita Shrine, a massive historical shrine complex that can be entered 24/7 and features many shrine buildings, a beautiful landscape garden, especially in fall, and best of all, dozens of cute cats. Outside of Narita Shrine is Naritas Sanan Omando, a traditional Japanese shopping street selling foods, souvenirs, and the local delicacy eel. Wandering through these streets gives you the perfect last opportunity to savor some Japan before you break down crying at the airport because you’re leaving. You’re welcome.
