Meguru Yamaguchi’s AWAKENINGS exhibition is on view at ISETAN THE SPACE until November 3, 2025

Brooklyn‑based artist Meguru Yamaguchi’s exhibition AWAKENINGS is on view at ISETAN THE SPACE in Tokyo, presenting six works that push his signature painterly language into three dimensions. Renowned for liberating brushstrokes from the conventional flatness of canvas, Yamaguchi carves painted forms that project into the surrounding space and engage viewers from multiple angles.

Central to the presentation is the title work “AWAKENINGS NO.2 (2025),” executed in acrylic with UV and epoxy resin and finished with a UV urethane coating, a large‑scale piece that exemplifies his fusion of painting and low‑relief sculpture. Also featured are “MÖBIUS NO.24 (2025)” and “OUT OF BOUNDS NO.196 (2025),” each demonstrating Yamaguchi’s layered surface techniques, meticulous material handling and polished finishes.

Together, the six panels and related editions map an ongoing investigation into surface, form and spatial perception, placing the OUT OF BOUNDS series alongside newly realized works that push his practice further into relief and environmental presence. Rather than offering a passive study of pattern, the works are intended to evoke the sensation of movement — feeling, remembering and encountering motion in material form.

AWAKENINGS remains on view through November 3, 2025 and includes merchandise from GOLDWOOD ARTWORKS, the art collective led by Yamaguchi.
