While you may want to join the fun on base this spooky season, there are also plenty of Halloween events off base leading up to the holiday. Many of the host towns just outside the base have exciting festivities planned to get you in the mood for some haunts.

Kids of all ages can join in on the spooky fun and grab some sweet treats. So, don’t let the fun of the season pass you by and join in!

Hours: 5 – 8 p.m.

Location: Misawa AB (Main Base and North Housing Areas)

Rules: All Misawa AB personnel with base escort privileges can bring off-base guests (up to 25 per sponsor). Authorized sponsors include active-duty military, DoD civilians, military retirees, contractors, MLCs/IHAs with escort privileges, and military dependents over the age of 18. Non-residents must be accompanied by a sponsor, and access requests should be submitted by October 20, 2025.

Halloween Trunk or Treat: Oct 24 at BX Parking Lot, free for all ages, 4:30-5 p.m. (EFMP only), 5-7 p.m. (open to all).

Zombie Glow Run 5K: Oct. 24 at Bldg. 197 Trail. Free. Starts at 6 p.m. DOD ID holders and JASDF members only.

Defend Area 35 Paintball: Oct. 25. 3-4 p.m. ages 10 or older to play with a parent or guardian (ages 18 or older) actively participating. 5-7 p.m. ages 18 or older. 2,000 paintballs for $65 (cash only). For more information, visit here.

Halloween Festa in Misawa 2025 (near Misawa AB)

Date: Oct. 18

Hours: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Location: Arcade Shopping Street (traffic closed) in Misawa Town, Misawa City, Aomori Prefecture

The shopping street will be closed to traffic, so you can enjoy strolling in a safe, cheerful Halloween atmosphere. The Festa starts at 11 a.m. with a treasure hunt stamp card game for kids (for the first 300 guests). Find all six Halloween characters to get the card stamp and win a prize. Sky Plaza Misawa will also have a drawing corner. There will also be a costume parade and contest, all are welcome to join from 11:30. Enter for a chance to win 30,000 yen for the best costume. Trick-or-treating starts at 3 p.m. with a cue of firecrackers.

Yokota Base Side Halloween Party 2025 (near Yokota AB)

Date: Oct. 26

Hours: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Location: Friendship Park and Base side Street, 2351-11 Fussa, Fussa City, Tokyo

Gather at the Friendship Park by 11 a.m. to join a Halloween costume contest (limited to the first 100 individuals or teams). Winners will receive tickets for a hot spring trip, amusement parks and some electrical appliances. You can also enjoy a Bingo Tournament and Bean Bag Toss with monsters. Join as one of the 100 dancers who dance Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” together. Food trucks will sell American-style food and drinks.

Halloween Festival in Yokosuka Downtown (near Yokosuka NB)

Date: Oct. 19

Hours: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Location: Around Mikasa Shopping Street in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture

Visit Yokosuka downtown on Oct. 19 and enjoy Dance Funk (children’s dance battle) and Laser Zone (a survival game) at the “Y Deck” event square. Live performances, dances, food and souvenir booths and various workshops are also provided along the Mikasa Shopping Street. At the Ramen Market on site, sample various bowls of tasty noodles.

Zama Ekimae Halloween 2025 (near Camp Zama)

During the event, trick or treat at 25 shops around Zama Station. Get spooky with live performances, Halloween photo spots, various games and a Haunted Mansion.

Sagami Oono Halloween (near Sagami Housing Area)

Middle school-aged students or below in Halloween costumes are eligible to participate in the event. This year, 5,000 young people are expected to join the event, and they will walk, with a participation certificate, a map and a stamp card, around checkpoints in the area to get candies.

Atsugi Mylord Halloween (near NAF Atsugi)

On Oct. 25, the thrilling “Find the Fugitive” interactive events takes you on a fun search with nice prizes as rewards.

The next day, visitors can check out the Halloween Kids Parade and live music performed by a college band. Take some professional photos at the Halloween Photo Session. Halloween Photo spots set up along the Hon-Atsugi Mylord will be available until Oct. 31.

Iwakuni Halloween Carnival (near MCAS Iwakuni)

During the event, you can enjoy trick-or-treating, a costume contest, a pumpkin weight quiz and Haunted Mansion, which sure will make you feel spooky. Pre-registration is required, so check out the website and register by Oct. 22. (The first 150 only)

Nagasaki Kids Halloween Party 2025 (near Sasebo NB)

Ages 12 or younger in their Halloween costumes can participate with parents/guardians in a candy-hunting rally. Kids can get snacks and candy by walking around the area with stamp cards and a map. They can also walk the Red Carpet to show off their Halloween costumes. The participants can rally at every half hour starting at noon to 1:30 p.m. Online registration is required with a fee of 800 yen.

2. Online Halloween Costume Contest

Ages 15 and younger with parents/guardians nationwide can participate in the Halloween costume contest. Snap a pic and join the contest online.
