I Found a Street in Japan With Eels, Chopsticks and Old Japan Vibes

Join me as I walk down Omotesando street in Narita, Japan, the lively road that leads to the historic Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. This place feels like stepping into old Japan, full of traditional shops, food, and souvenirs that make it one of the most charming temple streets I have ever explored.
In this video, I take you with me to experience the sights, sounds, and flavors of this famous approach street.
Here is what I saw and experienced:
I stopped by Kawatoyo Honten, a legendary unagi (eel) restaurant where the chefs prepare fresh eel right in front of you before grilling it over hot charcoal. The smell fills the street and it is one of the most unforgettable food experiences in Japan.
I found a shop that sells beautiful handmade custom chopsticks, each pair crafted with care and detail. They make such a unique and personal souvenir to bring home from Japan.
I captured the atmosphere of late spring and early summer in Narita, with the sun shining, the street buzzing with visitors, and the air full of delicious aromas.
Along the way, I passed many gift shops, snack stalls, and craft stores, each adding to the old Japan charm that makes Omotesando such a special place.
Walking this street feels like time travel. The traditional wooden storefronts, paper lanterns, and the rhythm of people moving toward the temple create an atmosphere you cannot find in modern Japan. It is both peaceful and lively, and I think it is one of the best places to enjoy a slice of Japanese culture in a short visit.
If you are planning a trip to Tokyo or have a layover at Narita Airport, this is an easy day trip that will give you an authentic look at Japanese food, crafts, and temple culture.
