A Day in Hakodate Japan

Duke. Good morning from Hakodate. Uh, we were gonna bring you to our first stop, which is the tram that takes you all the way to the top of the mountain for the beautiful overlook, but as a result of them not being able to get enough chainsaws and leaf blowers here, they decided just to cut the service down. So, we can’t get on there until about 2:00 this afternoon. So, until then, we’ll look around for some other stuff to do. Right outside the tram, you got this pretty park and then hopefully around 2:00 when that tram opens, we’ll take you up to there. We were about to take you down a different street, one one above to the left, but there was like two huge tours. Case in point. See if we can’t get in front of them. That’s the Russian Orthodox Church. It is. And the other one we showed you was Roman Catholic Church. There you go. Sorry about any ambient wind noise today. It is windy and I didn’t bring the microphone. Vines have grown over the cross on top of this house or it’s actually an antenna. Slope. Here’s a closer look at what Genie was talking about with the vines around the TV antenna. Pretty classic old houses. They have little plaques like they’re part of the historical society. It probably is. Wow. There’s no way you’re gonna avoid people. Nope. Not today. Anyway, upcoming on the left is the old public hall. Hello. Hello again. How are you? Good. Those are our friends from earlier. We’ll show you the clip from Saporro. Right. You’re coming from Saporro for the And you’re here for the day. Please tell me difference of entertainment food. Please tell me the difference of food. Saporro is our next stop. Yes. Yes. We like Saporro. Please tell me the difference of food between your and you not positive what they were saying but they were definitely practicing their English and they seem to be from Saporro and on a date trip here. That’s my guess. But they definitely stepped out of their comfort zone to try and engage with us. Yeah. Very nice. So, not only do you have to pay to go inside, but also there’s a waiting list. Apparently, they let so many people in at a time, and they told us we had to wait. So, we passed on that and we’re going to move on to a pair of temples that are side by side about a 15-minute walk from here on this beautiful day at 71°. Greeks. Get out. Shut down, huh? All shut down. Yeah. All right. We have one more temple to show you before we go down the hill. Shamo Gi Temple. And I doubt we’re getting into this one either, but at least we can show you. We’ll go up to the top. There might be a very nice view when I turn around. You want me to go over there and ask them to stop until We’re actually uh waiting for the tram. So, they got the uh the message where we are and they quickly brought a concrete packer here for our ambient noise. They have every sector covered. They must have ran out of leaf blowers and chainsaws and chainsaws and everything else. Garbage trucks. So, they brought the uh concrete compactor. And on we go. We can look inside there. Yep. So, it’s 11:30 and we pretty much did everything on our list already today except for the tram ride which doesn’t open till 2:00. So as added value, we’ll just Genie found this Aini market which is like a morning market. So we’ll take a look through here, dried fish, salmon. This place is pretty famous for crab and salmon. But I saw a lot of scallop. Look at all that king crab. Definitely going to be having king crab tonight. Cooking charge, boiled or barbecued. Free. They’ll cook it for you and then you eat it right here just like they’re doing. Damn, that looks good. Good. Yeah. She gave me the uh the international Yes. And like I was telling you, they got salmon out the kazoo here because it it runs from the sea. Sea runs salmon. Everybody’s feasting on crab. You like king crab? This is king crab mecca. Those are some pretty Big king crab legs right there. How about those scallops? Damn, that saw looks really good. I tell you right now, this is not fake. This is not just some item that they’re displaying and you can get. This is real big cantaloupes, too. I don’t think we truly had any idea of how vast this is. And then there’s another public market next door that’s even bigger. I’m guessing that uh cantaloupe’s pretty popular here. Fresh melon juice. I’m going to probably get some. Okay. Yeah. Did you see the price? We’re not not paying that. I’m going to stop and give some juice. So, I asked the lady which one she recommended. She said the melon 100%. So, that’s what I got, the melon. Give it a shot. That is so good. So good. Number one. You need to try a sip of that, Genie. Jeannie just told me that all this king crab is pull your pants down expensive and she doesn’t think we’re doing it. We’ll find out. We’ll have to do a little conversion and see. I already did. You think I’m not converting it already? That guy was eating a crab cake. What’s that? He was eating a crab cake. Wow. Look at the size of those oysters and scallops. I think this thing’s eating zangi fried chicken. 2 kilos. 3 kilos. There’s a machine over here. I have absolutely no idea what it does, but we need to investigate. It guts something. Oh, the squid. That’s how they got the squid. Got it. give you an idea. Yeah. That one leg Yeah. is $35. Really? Right here. Why? Why you say that? Because I It’s 5,000 yen. One piece. One piece is 5,000 yen. Yes. So, how much is 3 kilos or 2 kilos? It They don’t have a price on that. It’s so expensive they don’t even give you a price. One leg is $35. You get a a package. So, and and this is snow crab. It’s not king crab. You think this is all snow crab? No, this is not snow crab. What is this? This is uh like their certainly isn’t dungeonous. It’s live hairy crab. Hairy crab. Hairy crab. You get two of them for three. I’ll tell you. You get two crabs for $95. Ain’t that something? Nice and warm out. Mhm. Let’s walk down this way. What about the oysters or scallops? Three for a thousand. I like scallops, especially when they have the row in it. Two oysters for $7. Okay. Number one shop in the morning market. Three set for 10,000. And And those claws, they look like uh blue crab. I know they’re not. I know they’re not. Those are snow crab. Okay. This guy’s got set meals here. Hi. Good. Good. Yes. Good. Good. Is it good? It’s good. Difference if you hand it to me or hand it to him. Very hot. Very hot. Very hot. All right. This guy claims he’s the only person out here who sells the snow crab steamed bun. So, and it’s very, very hot. Be forewarned. So, we’ll see. We have to definitely let it cool down. It’s hot. First impressions, I took a smell. It smells really good. Genie says it’s going to be all fishy and I’m going to spit it out. We’ll see. So, I took a bite to let the steam out and I got to the middle. It’s not bad. I don’t think Genie would like it, but it’s not like fishy spit it out, but it’s not the sweetest crab I’ve ever had. Her crab cakes are a lot better. I’ll take one more bite. See, you still go for one. You won’t spit it out. No way. Not a chance. No. There you have it, ladies and gentlemen. Okay, take a picture of that. I This guy just held it up. We we asked him how much this is. How much this king crab is and he says it’s about 6 kilos. It’s king crab. And he’s we converted the price. It’s about 6 what? 20 bucks. Yeah. 625. $625 if we wanted to buy that and sit down and eat it. That’s still cheaper than our Kobe beef experience. Genie, you in? Oh yeah. Thank you. We’re on to our next spot. Red Brick Warehouses. Genie says it’s a shopping area. I’m going to take a wild guess. It’s old warehouses that have been converted. We’ll see. So, we got stopped again by these kids from Saporro who want to engage us and have conversation and they have uh some school questions to ask us and they did and we gave them our channel and we’ll see you guys on YouTube. This Rick Rick Shaw driver, he’s got some damn big muscles in his legs. Ken Genie, should we have him hump us up the hill to the tram? Yeah. Whoever owns this motorcycle is definitely an adventurer. Take a second to show you this. This thing is decked out for world travel. Nice. They have water birds. Mhm. Seagulls. As promised, we’re going to take you on the tram. Looks like it’s open now. And as always, Genie’s getting the tickets. Genie’s got the tickets and off we go. Departures. Just when you think you’ve walked up far enough, they give you a couple more flights of stairs. Right, Genie? So, it looks like this tram runs every 15 minutes. Okay. Man, this thing moves pretty quick. They do. We will soon arrive at the summit station. The exit will be on the right side as you face the direction of travel. This guy’s rocking the GoPro. I’m all done with them for the rest of my life, except for maybe some underwater stuff. We have reached the top and it is indeed stunning. No drones. We’ll give you the pan. Open a minute. And that wraps up our one day tour of Hakadeti. And we did an awful lot today. And it’s about 3:00 and we’re pretty much done. Tomorrow we wake up and it’s moving day. That’s right. Where are we going? We’ll see you there. It’s a surprise. Okay.
