Tennoji and neighboring Abeno districts are located in the southeast of central Osaka, where there is Abeno Harukas, the tallest skyscraper in Japan. Tennoji Station is one of Osaka’s biggest transportation hubs, served by multiple JR and subway lines. Kintetsu Osaka Abenobashi Station is just across the street from Tennoji Station.
The area south of Tennoji Station has gone through redevelopment over the last several years to make the district reborn. There are about seven malls in the area immediately surrounding the station, there is a wide variety of shopping choices. As other nearby attractions, there are Shitennoji Temple and Tennoji Park with a zoological garden and an art museum. West of the park lies Shinsekai, which is a uniquely Osakan dining and entertainment district.
