Uzbekistan wins top BIE award at Expo 2025 Osaka

AKIPRESS.COM – The Uzbekistan pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, has received the gold medal for “Theme development” – the highest distinction presented by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). The BIE Awards honor pavilions that best embody the Expo’s vision through creativity, innovation, and cultural expression. Regarded as one of the most prestigious recognitions at World Expos, the award highlights exceptional achievements in design, storytelling, and contribution to the Expo’s overarching theme, Kun.uz reported.

The winning concept, “Garden of Knowledge: A Laboratory for a Future Society,” was praised for its unique blend of tradition and modernity. “We presented a vision that reflects harmony between our cultural heritage and innovation – an idea that resonated deeply with the global community,” said Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan. “I sincerely thank our entire team and international partners for their inspiration, professionalism, and belief in this project.”

The award decision was made by an international jury of nine experts who visited the Uzbekistan pavilion on May 21, 2025. The BIE Awards recognize excellence in three key categories – “Architecture and landscape,” “Exhibition design,” and “Theme development” – across five types of pavilions.

Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan, emphasized that the award represents more than aesthetic achievement. “This honor celebrates not only the design but also the spirit of our pavilion – Uzbekistan as a nation that preserves its rich heritage while advancing toward the future with a progressive vision,” she said. “In collaboration with ATELIER BRÜCKNER, we created a space of creativity, identity, and innovation. Receiving this recognition at the conclusion of Expo 2025 marks the culmination of an extraordinary creative journey and amplifies Uzbekistan’s voice on the global stage.”
