Osaka–Kansai Expo in Japan Closes Today; Closing Ceremony and BIE Flag Handover to Riyadh

The Osaka–Kansai Expo in Japan, held over 184 days since April 13, comes to a close today, October 13.

At the closing ceremony starting at 2:00 p.m. today the 13th, His Imperial Highness Prince Akishino, Honorary President of the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, will deliver remarks, and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and others are scheduled to speak. The flag of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) will also be handed over to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the host city for the next Expo in 2030. The ceremony will be livestreamed on the Expo’s official YouTube channel and other platforms. Also today, events such as an exhibition themed on the official character “Myaku-Myaku” and a flag parade will be held, with the Expo concluding at 10:00 p.m. There will be no same-day ticket sales.

At the East and West Gates, large numbers of visitors gathered before the official opening time of 9:00 a.m., and once admission began, they quickly made their way to their target pavilions.

According to the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, cumulative ticket sales reached 22,067,054 as of October 3, and cumulative attendance reached 26,828,409 as of October 4 (including 3,214,808 affiliated persons).
