Worcester travel vlog: There’s much more to this city than sauce! Best cafes, bars & restaurants

Afternoon. We we came to do a video today in
the city where we live in Worcester. This is Gheluvelt Park. We don’t come to this park very
often, but came probably came a few years ago,   but it’s really nice actually. We’ve forgotten how
how nice it is here. And yeah, we thought we’d do a little piece here on a Sunday because
the destination is a new cafe that’s open called Kynd Folk, which is in the park a little
bit further along. And it’s by the team that owns Wayland’s Yard, which is a cafe we go to
quite often and we really like. They do nice food,   nice team there, nice coffee. So, we wanted to
check out their new place. because they’ve got a it’s like an old Victorian pump room building
that been sort of a cafe was there before but it closed about 5 years ago. So they’ve reopened it
done a lot of work to reopen it and there’s lots of ducks being fed. So yeah, we’re keen to keen to
check out their new place. and give them a bit of support because yeah, they’re nice nice team there
and we really like their food and drinks. So yeah, we’re gonna we’re gonna have a little walk
through the park and find the new cafe. Just take a look at through the menu. The paper
menus and you can order through the QR code there. The guys working just telling us they opened a
couple of weeks ago and they’ve been pretty much   full ever since. It’s obviously been a really
popular opening and they’ve done a really nice job. It looks really good. We’re outside because
it’s so busy inside but we’ve got a covered seat here. Yeah, they’ve done a really nice job
with it. We’re just looking through the menu. They got good selection here. Breakfast
sandwiches, brunch dishes, porridge,   halloumi French toast, sort of bigger plates,
jacket potatoes the sides, and they got sort of like picnicky type lunch boxes type thing.
So, it’s like ideal for park picnics because   obviously we’re in the park here. Um, smoothies,
milkshakes, ice cream. There was an ice cream seller out the front. And here’s your selection
of coffee on the back. And you can see the prices for yourself. And a few beers there as well
actually. Camden hells cider. And for the kids, babychino. And we’ve got chai lattes and matcha
lattes. So really nice little selection there. From Kind Folk here. As you can see, we’re sat
outside the old Victorian pump house. We obviously have taken it on, spent 15 weeks or so restoring
it, tried to have a really delicate touch when   it comes to the building itself because it’s a
beautiful space. Done kind of the most extensive heavy duty work to the outside. Opened up what
just over two weeks ago, had a couple of days shut to kind of refit some places. Uh, and the
feedback and the support and everything else has   just been immense. We feel so super grateful for
it. Obviously team behind Wayland’s and a couple of other venues. We’ve taken it on, given it a
really good go. Um serving the same Odd Kin coffee uh food and stuff. We’ve differentiated a little
bit between the two sites. but yeah, since we’ve   opened the doors, it’s just been manic and mental,
which is why I’m probably covered in coffee and all sorts. Um but yeah, really appreciate you
guys jumping in and checking out the space.   So nice to be here. It looks really great. Really
love how it looks. Um it was was it close to about 5 years this space? I think we remember during
coid or something there a cafe here. Yeah. So   there was it used to be called the environmental
center or the environmental cafe. So I I never frequented it. I can’t say anything on the space.
I know that the main thing people have commented   on is they didn’t really utilize the outside
spaces. So I think it was park council park when I say the duckworth trust. So park council park
charity. Opening hours were a lot shorter. We’ve obviously gone 7:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. which felt
optimistic but it’s it’s worked so far. Um but yeah obviously if you go back back uh it was as
we said an old pump house so would have supplied water to my understanding is half of barbourne
most of Northwick the massive sort of banked   reservoirs out the front the machinery obviously
when you walk through you can have a check up in the ceiling that was the old lifts and cranes and
pulleys to pull pumps out when they broke or they   needed maintenance. Um but the space is it’s yeah
incredibly beautiful and we feel really lucky to get to put our stamp on it and do what we’ve done.
Really nice. Yeah. And obviously as you mentioned   your team or you whipped the waylands yard as
well, wasn’t it? So exactly. So we’ve a good following from there. Exactly. I think that was
it was sort of part part and parcel we we did a   lot of stuff on the social media if you guys have
commented and that I think just naturally with it being obviously a big focus and a big kind of like
motivator with everything we’ve done has been the   community aspect of it and in a space that’s so
residential heavy and so community driven it’s really really resonated with people and really
landed. But from like an operational point,   what we do down the road at Waylands, we brought
a lot of the processes, brought a lot of the infrastructure in. Um, but as we touched on at the
very start, still tried to have a little point of   difference between the two sites. Uh, and yeah,
we just feel in the best way, we feel staggered with how it’s all been going so far. And yeah,
super happy. And just finally, it’s like you’re   doing some evening events as well. Exactly that.
So, we’re aiming ambition is 12 weeks starting on the 13th of June. We’ve got the Thai Buddha
guys. Yeah and then there’s a number of people,   some of whom are associated with Digbeth Dining
Club, some of whom are kind of freelance vendors. The double gates on the right hand side of the
back section are going to be opened up. Food truck   drops in there. We’re still unsure whether we’re
ticketing or whether we’re just doing it as a free-for-all because the first one we put out had
four or 500 people say they wanted to come down,   which obviously might put us in a spot of
bother. So, we might do some whether it be like a food ticket or we might do something where
it’s like a a one pound kickback to charity just   so that we can manage the numbers. Um, but yeah,
obviously we’re open. We’ll be licensed right the way through. Um, we’ve got some extended licensing
and some extended sort of operational hours for   those. And yeah, the intention is that it’s going
to be 12 weeks from the 30th of June right the way through June, July, August. Um, and yeah,
we’ll say we’ll hope to see you there. Exactly. So, we’re just walking along the river
here the little riverside path. We’ve had   our coffee at Kynd Folk, which is really
good. Really good. Um this is Pitchcroft sort of park and Riverside Wharf and they can see
the horse race track over there as well with the buildings in the distance. Um yeah, so a little
walk along the riverside. There’s very pretty house next to the river here and the boat. I don’t
know if we can come down here. We probably can. Hey, sorry. Oh, you just caught me admiring the   view just from here. Like
this bench perfectly placed Valentino. So, today we’re in we came to Worcester to
continue our little journey around the city. We’ve ordered our house wine here and yeah,
we’re in Valentino’s Italian restaurant. It started off in a village called Upton upon
Severn and it moved to Worcester 30 years ago and it’s really popular place. Really does good
Italian food, pizzas, pastas, oven baked foods, good fish, good meat. We’re here for just
a meal tonight and it’s yeah, we’re just showcasing a few of the places in Worcester
that we like to come to. Restaurants, bars, cafes. So, this is the latest on our
list and we’ll show you everything   that we’re going to eat tonight and
hopefully some pizza making as well. Best garlic bread ever. It is best garlic bread
ever. And it’s every time we come here have to order that. The cheesy cheesy topping one.
You can we normally will get more than one, but I think one enough today
we’re going to share. Yeah,   because we got pizza to come.
The going to eat all of it. Y ya. We’re going to have some You’re having
your normal What is it? Oven baked pasta with like cheesy cheesy stuff parsley like
a canalone canalone isn’t it? Yeah. And I’m going to have a very meaty pizza. Yeah.
Pork chicken beef everything on there. Meatball kofte there. Kuzu. I don’t
think any kuzu. Maybe some karneyarik. So, what do you think about Valentinos then?
I come here. We’ve been here a lot. So, I’m always coming here. We’re not
very often. No. But if we go out here, always you come here. Yeah. My coming. Thank you. Looks good as you can count there. Food didn’t last that long. Empty plates now.
That was really good. Yeah, every time we come, it’s really nice meal. Mel’s food. Canalone is
really good. Vegetarian option. I had a very meaty pizza. Really good. Gulj had calzone. There’s
a little bit of it left there to take home. Um, glass of wine. Really good, really lovely
restaurant this on a nice street. If you come for a meal here, there’s lots of other
bars and pubs on the road that you can go to   before and after for a drink. So, definitely
recommend a visit here. Some really good, high quality food, independent restaurant
in the heart of Worcester. Cheers. Didn’t that make you think? So what did the bill
come to? £76.85. £76.85 for three people. Started our garlic bread. And we had a calonia
pizza and a carried annual meal canalone. So £75 £76.85. Not bad. Not bad I would say for
good quality food and a free mint at the end. It needs I’m just going to open the door for Melo. Welcome to Bolero. This is one of our favorite
places to come for a drink in the weekend or during the week sometime. We actually had our
wedding reception in this very room. There’s a bar at the front as little sitting outside
and there’s a garden area at the back here as   well. It’s one of the best places I’d say to come
for a drink in Worcester along the foregate just from Valentino’s a little walk up and we came
to Valentinos. You’re going to see have a chat with the owner here, Mahmut, in a minute who’s
a friend of ours. Um, yes, it’s really nice, really cool little place to come for a drink and
some really good food here as well. And we are coming here next week for your birthday. Exactly.
Surprise. Surprise birthday. Big surprise. Serefe. Need it. Need it. Need it. You need it. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. I’m not Hey everybody, we brought our Bailey’s Ice Latte
down towards the riverside. A lovely little thing to do in Worcester is to have a little loop around
the river. So coming up past from the bridge, uh walking along and you can walk in a big circle
to the bridge down there and all along the other side. you can see in the picture there, lots of
swans. That’s a big thing in Worcester. There’s always lots of swans around on the river. People
love feeding them. And just behind me is the Worcester Cathedral as well, which we’ll get a
better view when we walk a bit further up. But it’s a beautiful little spot. Across on the
river on the other side is the cricket club,   not too far away, and that’s always
nice views over there as well. So, standing here just next to the king’s
school kind of boat house. You can see the shape of the building. Kind of looks like
a a rowing boat. And out of the doors here,   you can often see the the pupils taking the
the boats out onto the river and going up and down throughout the day. It’s quite a nice site
to see. Behind us here, the Diglis House Hotel, which is a nice place. Definitely in
the summer because it’s got a really   nice beer garden we like to sit in. It’s
really popular during the summer months. I need it. These are really cool houses along the the
riverside here. Really beautiful, nice views   and everything like that. We actually looked there
one for sale recently and we looked at it. But the problem is with these is you’re so close to the
river that they actually flood during the winter   months sometimes and that’s really not something
you really want for your house. But really nice riverside living but not sure it’s worth the
the risk of the flooded house but beautiful. So Birmingham 30 miles that way. 58 locks
and then Tewkesbury one lock. So, if you’re unfamiliar with the rivers, we’re not experts,
but the locks are basically when these narrow   boats and boats come along the river because the
river level sort of rises and falls. These locks, like Melo to the left, you see the water level
changes. The boats will come in. You open the the gates at the lock by pushing the white bits
there on the side. And then you bring the water level up so it’s the same level as your boat.
And then you can carry on through the river. So what they’re doing now is you can see
the water moving in this bit quite strongly.   They need to wait till that water
raises enough for the boat to come through. Because you see on the
other side the level’s still high,   but it’s coming through now. So it raise up
on this side. So they’ll be the same level and they can come through smoothly. This has
turned into like a canal edition of Worcester. We’re going to get perfect example of it now   because they’re opening the gate
so the boat can come through. And now he can get on his way. And
now when they go through people I guess that’s the lady with him. She’s going
to have to close the gates up now so that they keep the water levels right
for the next person to come through. This is Diglis Marina and obviously
you see a lot of like narrow boats, canal boats moored up here. I think some
people living on them, but it’s actually there’s a nice places to live around here
like the flats and all are pretty cool. And then there’s like Piston Gin. They make
their own gin there, distillery over there.   And they host sort of music and late night
events. Quite a cool place. There’s a pub over that way as well. Um it’s nice little
place to have a little wander around this. So, we talked a little earlier about the flooding
in the area and it when was to get up flood water and you can see on the wall here they put in
sort of bricks and detailing on when the dates and the years of when it had these floods. So,
down the bottom here you can see like 1910. So, a long long time 100 years or more. But
there’s some ones up at the top here like   1947. I can’t even reach that high the water.
1886 and then 2007. I reckon remember this one, but look, I’m just reaching up to touch that
water level. That’s really high. I mean,   my height, I’m about 6’5, joking, sixish.
But that’s well above my head level. So, you can see how much that that
would have flooded the entire area. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. They don’t have to Hey guys, I thought I’d come to one of our
favorite coffee shops today in Worcester. This is Cafe Colombia and this is a place we love
to come to every now and again. So just briefly, this is Colombian farmer coffee that they
do here. You can see the nicely intricately designed coffee pot there. So basically what
this is, you’ve got your cinnamon stick there. You’ve got your hot water there which you can pour
into the coffee in the top. You can see the nicely designed menus there as well. So this is like
a speciality coffee that I have occasionally. bit more expensive than a normal coffee. But you
pour the water into the top there. Let it brew. Let’s just let that coffee brew. You can see that
is closed there or it should be hopefully. And then when you want to open it after a little
bit of time, you put it over strong or medium   depending on your preference. Yeah, I really love
these. These designs are really cool, aren’t they? So, it’s called Francini
Cafe de Colombia. Um, yeah, it’s a really cool little place. Really like
bit different, not a chain coffee shop. Um, really cool one. You see the designs, genuine.
The owners here are Colombian. They go back home occasionally to get back the coffee beans
and bring them back here to the shop. So,   it’s a really cool place. Really enjoy coming
here. And I’m just going to enjoy my coffee now. So, there’s a couple of different ways you can
have this. I’ve had it chosen to have it with   lime. You can have it black as lime just adds a
little bit extra extra flavor, extra little um taste in there, which I like. And you’ve got your
sort of cinnamon stick here, which you can use for   like stirring and just I say add a little flavor
as well. So, what I’ll do is pop that down and I’m going to pour my coffee now. So, as I said,
you just change the the top I just use two hands. And that’ll start the coffee into
the pot there for me to enjoy. And there you go, guys. That’s the
finished product. Just a little stir   with my cinnamon stick. Pop that on there. Cheers. So good. So, as you Yeah, we didn’t feel right
to do a Worcester video without coming to Cafe Colombia. It’s a really cool independent coffee
shop here in Worcester. Really cool owners and the staff here are lovely. We really love
to come here. The coffee is great. So,   if you are popping through,
then definitely come here. There’s even there’s even some cloves in there as
well. So, when you’re drinking, just be careful for those little cloves as well. Okay, I’m going
to enjoy my coffee and I’ll speak to you later. So guys, hopefully you saw today that there’s
more to Worcester than just Worcestershire Sauce.   Everyone knows that from the factory here, the Lea
and Perrins factory. But we showed you the rivers, the pubs, the restaurants, the food. What a
great city this is. We love it here. And we   hope you like the video, too. Please don’t forget
to like and subscribe. And we’ll see you all soon.
