⁴ᴷ Kyoto: Higashi Maizuru Station (京都府: 東舞鶴駅) – Japan Walking Tour (October, 2025)

Exploring Maizuru: Japan’s Historic Naval Port and Maritime Self-Defense Force Base

I set out on a journey to Kansai to visit my family home in Kobe. Along the way, I planned to pass through several towns as I traveled west, and on the way back, I intend to stop by places that catch my interest before returning to the Tokyo area.

From Osaka, I headed north and arrived in Maizuru, a city on the Sea of Japan coast. Once a prosperous naval port, Maizuru is now home to one of Japan’s major Maritime Self-Defense Force bases.

Having already visited the JMSDF bases in Kure, Yokosuka, and Sasebo, I was glad to finally make it to Maizuru. I was a bit concerned about a nearby typhoon, but fortunately, I was able to walk around without any major issues.

The city has an arcade shopping street, but since it was a Sunday, there weren’t many people out and about.
