10 Fun Things To Do in Okinawa (Blue Zone Lunch, Tokashiki Day Trip & More!)

Looking for fun things to do in Okinawa? I might have some helpful tips for you. I absolutely loved visiting Okinawa and can’t wait to share my findings with you. Let’s go. It’s quite difficult to rely on public transportation on the mainland of Okinawa. So, if you want to see the most of the island, I’d suggest renting a car, preferably for the entire duration of your stay on the mainland, or at least for a full day. This way, you’ll see the most of the mainland, and you can stop anywhere you’d like. I rented a car at GoGo rental car in Naha and had a super positive experience there. [Music] If you’re staying in Naha, you can visit Naha Beach to relax. It’s quite a small beach, but very chill. When I was there, it was pretty quiet, and it was the perfect place to spend a beautiful and sunny day. [Music] At Naha Beach, you also have a few food stands like a jerk chicken truck, which had super tasty food. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] A pretty popular place on the mainland of Okinawa is American Village. The name kind of already tells you what it is, but it’s basically a little village where American and Okinawan culture come together. [Music] Walking through it, American Village kind of feels like a theme park. It’s got some nice shops, good restaurants, and a beautiful view over the water. Activity-wise, I didn’t feel like there was a lot to do here. So, after getting something to eat and strolling around for a bit, I felt like I had seen everything already. It was a really nice experience, and I definitely wouldn’t have wanted to miss it. They say Okinawa is the Hawaii of Japan. So to stay with that team, it’s a nice idea to visit an Hawaiian restaurant. I had breakfast at Morning Bowls where I had a super tasty plate with pancakes, eggs, and more. [Music] I put the link of the restaurant in the description as I believe there’s more places with a similar name. [Music] If you’re in the Ona area, a nice beach to visit is Mansa Beach. The beach at Monza Ocean Park is a really nice place to lay down at. Even when it’s busy, it has such a relaxing atmosphere. [Music] They also offer different kinds of water activities that you can book if you’d like. And I stayed here for an entire afternoon and had the best time ever. [Music] [Music] Want a little drink and a snack break with a nice view? Visit Bonta Cafe. This is such a lovely and gorgeous spot. I absolutely loved coming here. [Music] The garlic shrimps were so good and the view was amazing. You can also walk down to the beach and have a little relaxing moment there. So peaceful. [Music] If I knew what I know now about Okinawa, I think I would have booked my trip a bit differently. Because even though the mainland of Okinawa has a lot to offer, my absolute favorite place to visit was Tokashiki Island. It was everything I hoped for and more. White beaches, bright blue water. It was such a dream. The mainland is really fun, too, but more city-like, especially in places like Naha. So, next time I’m coming to Okinawa, I think I’d prefer to spend all my time on the smaller islands like Tokashiki and Ishigaki because that’s where the magic is at for me. Because I booked an Airbnb on the mainland in Naha, I decided to go on a day trip to Tokosiki Island. Please book your tickets at least a day or two in advance to secure your spot on the ferry. I put the location of the ticket counter in the description for you. Did you know Okinawa is one of the few blue zones of the world? This means that the people here generally live longer than in other places. There’s different reasons for their longevity like connection and living in a relaxed pace, but also their diet. The Blue Zone is officially in Oimi Village where you’ll find a restaurant that serves longevity lunches with information about the different types of food they have to offer. The name of this restaurant is Emmy Noise. I thought this was a super interesting experience. I tried a lot of new foods and learned a lot about the diet of the Okimi village. If you’re interested in longevity and the blue zones, this is definitely an experience for you. Also, don’t forget to bring cash as you can pay with card here and make a reservation at least a day or two ahead. [Music] Looking for a little coffee break whilst driving in the Nago area? Make a quick stop at Fifi Parlor. This is a really small coffee shop that also serves a small selection of snacks like churros. And they were all amazing. By the way, you can sit down by the water and have a peaceful moment whilst enjoying your snack. [Music] And the last tip I have for you today is Pizza in the Sky. This is also located in the Nago area. It was such a cozy restaurant. They serve really nice pizzas and the atmosphere is wonderful. And the view definitely another reason to visit. [Music] And that’s it for today’s tips. I hope you enjoyed this video and if you did, feel free to give it a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel. 1. Great Video! Really fun and easy to follow ☺️ i am going back to Okinawa next month. I am staying on the main land and Tokashiki. I visited Tokashiki for a day before but 4 nights this time 👌. Any thing you would recommend on the main land as I must do? Thank you. Dom
