The Shoguns Secret Vault πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅

Back in the day, Japan was split into little territories, each ruled by its own daimo. But Kurushiki was an exception. This little canal town was so important that it became a tenrio, a territory under direct control of the Tokugawa shogunit during the Edeto period, so 1603 to 1868. These whitew storehouses along the water were like one of the shogunits regional vaults. They once held the area’s rice tax. Back then, the farmers paid their taxes in rice, as well as goods like silk, salt, sake, or cash for trade and shipment to other major cities. It was basically the lifeblood of the empire. Sun. That’s pretty cool.

We spent 24hrs in Kurashiki, thinking it’s just be a pretty little area to explore, little did we know it was packed with some pretty insane lore including the Tokugawa Shogunate, rice tax, and the lifeblood of the Japanese empire! πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅
