Kura Sushi Inc., a major conveyor belt sushi chain, plans to continue offering dishes inspired by 70 countries and regions at the Osaka-Kansai Expo after the event ends.
These items are currently served in its branch at the venue of the expo, which will close on Oct. 13.
Due to the strong customer response, the company is preparing to offer selected dishes from the original 70 on a rotating monthly basis at branches nationwide starting around November.
“We hope to carry the legacy of the expo into our other branches even after the event ends,” said Hiroyuki Okamoto, board director of Kura Sushi.
As of Oct. 8, the expo branch, with a 135-meter-long conveyor belt, had attracted 300,000 visitors since the expo opened in April.
Each dish is priced at 320 yen ($2), including tax.
The servings include a Palau dessert called “Aho,” Belize-inspired “Habanero Chicken,” and South Korean-style “Ganjang Saewoo” (soy-marinated shrimp).
During the expo, Kura Sushi offered only one of the global dishes at about 550 branches. But in early September, three popular items were made available for a limited time at restaurants across Japan.
