Japan’s economy likely contracted in the third quarter after five consecutive periods of growth, as US President Donald Trump’s tariffs campaign took a toll on exports, according to a Bloomberg surveyBloomberg Terminal of economists.

The nation’s gross domestic product is projected to have declined at an annualized rate of 1.2% in the three months through September compared with the prior period, according to the median estimate of 58 economists. In the previous survey, economists had forecast the economy to eke out growth of just 0.1%, an outcome that would have extended the expansion to six quarters.
