I have this same problem in Chicago. I found just randomly picking one has led to discovering awesome new stuff. I take a pic before digging in and then ask the folks at the shops i buy what was what. Go for it!

Maybe something you wouldn’t cook yourself? I would personally choose fried stuff or grilled mackerel.
