On July 20, 2025, Sophia University’s Yotsuya Campus hosted the 9th U.S.-Japan Digital Innovation Hub Advanced Technology Workshop. The workshop focused on U.S.-Japan collaboration in research security and talent development related to Critical and Emerging Technologies (CET) during this transformative era. Approximately 100 participants from universities, industry, and government, both domestic and international, attended the event.

Key topics of discussion included building collaborative frameworks between academia, industry, and government in areas such as semiconductors, space development, AI, and quantum information science (QIS), including open-source governance. Other major themes were balancing economic security with academic freedom and innovation, as well as universities’ social responsibilities and strategic vision in the “age of technopolarity.” Updates on science, technology, education, and economic policies under the new administrations in both countries were also shared, sparking lively discussions on redefining U.S.-Japan relations.

The program featured keynote speeches, panel discussions, student poster presentations, and a networking reception, providing a valuable platform for fostering mutual understanding and strengthening collaboration. Notably, the strategic discussions, informed by the international context following the G7 Summit, offered significant insights into the future direction of U.S.-Japan cooperation.
