Chandigarh: A Haryana govt delegation’s three-day visit to Japan, led by chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, has helped the state find investment opportunities worth about Rs 5000 crore, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the state’s growth, said an official on Wednesday. The official added the visit was a historic step for the state’s industrial, agricultural, and technological development. It is significant that the chief minister chose Japan for his first foreign visit. This is the same country that in the 1980s, began investment in India through Maruti Industries in Gurugram. Haryana has always been a global investment destination for Japanese companies, where favourable industrial policies, strong infrastructure, and an investor-friendly environment have strengthened the confidence of foreign investors, said the official. During this visit, the delegation met leading Japanese companies and industrial groups, including AISIN, Air Water, TASI, Namboob, Denso, Sojitz, Nissin, Kawakin, Daikin, and Toppan. As a result of these meetings, more than 10 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) worth over Rs 4,400 crore were signed, paving the way for employment opportunities for thousands of youth in Haryana. The Japanese industrial sector, impressed by the transparent governance and industry-friendly policies of the Haryana govt, extended its hand of cooperation in the fields of industrial and infrastructural development, research, and innovation, said the official. The CM-led delegation’s visit comes at back of promises made in Saini’s first budget speech of 2025–26 regarding the establishment of 10 new industrial model townships (IMTs). His vision is to develop one of these IMTs exclusively with the cooperation of Japanese companies, said the official. The CM was also hoping that Japan would make its technology available for Haryana’s farmers. During his Japan visit, he toured the Kubota Tractor Plant in Osaka. Kubota proposed to invest over Rs 2,000 crore in Haryana. “The day is not far when Japan’s Kubota tractors will display their strength in the fields of Haryana,” said the official.
